recruiter right in the fvcking balls. This guy has been giving us the run around for over 3 months now. A little back story: After deidng that the school I was attending and degree path taken wasnt something id like ot do everyday for the rest of my life (comp programming) the woamn and I decided to peruse other venues. We decided on the air force and went to talk to the recruiter. Being something we have both wanted to do for a long time figured why not where not getting younger.
So anyways theres 2 ssgt's in the office. We talk to the first one, tell us to get our dmv records etc. He leaves and hasnt been back sence. Ok fair enough, militarys busy. We get our paperwork transfered to the otehr guy. great, he starts working on everything, has us order the womans medical papers (turned out she didn't need 3 sets only the one) 2 weeks waisted on that. Then we get my dmv record, its not great ill admit but told us nothing to worry about. Then calls me and ays some shit o your credit needs to get explained. Ok, I pick up the paperwork and instead of being like everyone else and doing a payment plan, I pay it all off in 2 days to get the ball going again.

Let em remind you all along the way man never calls us for shit, dosent enter shit in the computer. Anyways says it will take him awhile to enter my complete driving record and will call us friday. Saturday comes along no fkn phone call. We go in monday (as calling he never answers) and sit and talk. "Oh I haven't even Run this past my boss" he says. Remind you we have waisted like 2.5 months waiting on these people.

NOW he tells us (after we stop in to catch the guy) im not even going to enter your record just say you don't have a license and leave it at that. Well isn't that fkn dandy, you want me to lie. He tells us if it were to pop up we'd have some explaining to do. We no shit, and trying to explain why my enlistment is fradulant, ull get a slap on the peepee and ill be taking it up the ass by buba in jail. After which he says his boss will never approve of the speeding tickets I have.
Oh and to top it off said he was going to call me friday morning when we can get to meps and take the physical. its now 7:10pm and no call. the woman called his office a few times no answers. This is like the 60th time "ill call" and didn't call. Starting to seriously piss me off.

I have no idea what to do and just wanted to vent some. One had its really not very serious stuff, just traffic violations from like forever ago. On the other hand if you lie, and get caught. Kiss your ass goodbye.

I don't have the slightest idea what to do, there no other recruiters around in Orlando...

The reason for all that is that the AF is full up of good airpeople and have a long waiting list of good (gooder than you, in their opinion) people waiting to get in (Navy is the same way).

The Army and the Marines, however, will probably have you in before a couple weeks goes by. . . .
Thats what I sort of figured, people with less paperwork. But still if you say your going to call someone, fkn call them.
I'm still impressed he told me to lie and be ignorant to the fact.
my navy recruiter was a very lazy french-canadian that hated his job. he wasn't too bright either and he lied to me a few times. and when i quit he talked crap behind my back. don't ever trust a recruiter. they don't care about you. your just another body to them.

Like he said, the Air Force does not really need new people right now. In fact they have several programs to buy early retirement for some career guys. MEPS starts around 0530 hours so don't expect a call any time after that. They usually put you up in a hotel the night before and bus you there in the morning.

In my view, this recruiter has already met his quota for the quarter and he is trying to get you in sometime during the next quarter. He will keep stalling you until the end of the fiscal quarter then push you through fast. Just keep on him.

He was supposed to call us and inform us on the date we'd go etc.

Good point, probably goes to show its true by how lazy he has been. I guess seeing as he is going to get 2 body's instead of one, it dose seem logical to make us wait.

And remember, the is a waiver for EVERYTHING. A few traffic violations will not stop you from getting in if the recruiter feels like it.

This is very important, IGNORE anything he tells you about job specialties. Go talk to someone that has at least 4 years in the Air Force about what jobs they think are the coolest. Your job specialty will determine whether you like the AF or hate it more than any other factor. Your recruiter will tell you all of the good things about jobs he is trying to fill and none of the bad.
For example, aircraft loadmaster has a fairly easy job, but you work funny hours. Some jobs will have a 9-5 schedule.

I worked a lot with the REDHORSE. They are the AF's Engineers. I was an Engineer in the Army. These guys did more construction work than we did but less combat. They worked really hard and always had brand new equipment.
+1 do not trust a recruiter. You should also check out the Army and see if they have the job you're looking for. Even if/when you make it in to the AF they'll boot you for the slightest BS reason since they're full up.

+1

that is just the way it is,

talk to big army and see what they can do for you.
i'm going into the marines or air force after college and i'm trying to find out about the different jobs and how i can get them as much as possible before i go in. last time i just knew a little and i got screwed. just get high test scores and you'll have a better chance at getting what you want.
Id go talk to the army, but... The womans doing it with me, and she defenatly dosent want to go army.

So from my understanding, he isnt talking to us because he dosent need us at this time?
Take it from me bro...

Let this be a lesson to you. It is a gut-feeling/omen of all the personnel issues to come. I had an even clearer warning from my recruiter's incompetence. -long story.

The job was great, I loved the mission, and I met some of the finest people I will probably ever know. No regrets.

At the same time, the AF, or any branch for that matter, is no place for a person without the capacity or patience to deal with dumb asses being in charge of the major events in your life. Your money, your credentials, your safety, and your liberty are all in the hands idiots.

Good luck to you.
Which ever way you go, TALK TO SOMEONE who's still in, or has been in very recently. They'll give you the straight shit so you can avoid mistakes they made. At the very least, you will be able to go into that recruitment office with a little "ammo."

You may very well have to balance what you want, with what you can get. By that I mean...looking into different branches.

Which ever branch you end up in, I assure you, you'll meet some of the finest and unfortunately...some of the worst people you've met in your life thus far. Im reminded constatly of past friends and great memories, but I'm also happy as hell that Im out!!

Good luck.

Dude, you hit the nail on the head with that comment. I'm Active Duty AF and that is exactly what I'm going through right now. Also don't forget the people that you are responsible for and will have to answer for.

Recent actual situations in my life:

Base Commander "Why did your troop shop lift from the BX?"
Me " Uhhh sir, I do believe she is mentally retarded."

Judge during Court Martial "Why did the accused take Extacy?"
Me "Uhhh sir, I do believe she is mentally retarded."

First Sergeant "Why did your troop miss PT this morning."
Me "Uhh sir, I do believe he's mentally retarded."

Squadron Superindendent "Why do you have a picture of a naked lady on the back of your office door?"
Me "Uhhh sir, that's art and I like naked ladies."

Oh yeah, to help out the original poster:
I would stay away from Security Forces, they all seem to hate life. If you are considering it, before you sign on find a cat litter box and scoop out all the turds you can then put them between two pieces of bread and bite down. If you enjoy that you may be right for Security Forces.

+100 to that.

During my last tour in Iraq we stopped at a large base for a week or so and they had AF Security Forces driving around in SUVs giving out SPEEDING TICKETS to Army personnel in combat vehicles!!!
I hated that base, and EVERYONE HATED the AF security forces. We were rolling out (fast) one time responding to a car bomb and one of them tried to pull us over. He didn't follow us out the gate.
Either your recruiter is a shitbag, or he's met his quota and doesn't give a shit. Maybe both.

Yes, the AF is more stringent on that type of thing. they have all kinds of controls in place to try to bring in higher quality people. i don't mean any offense by that, just a fact of life. Between a guy with zero record and a guy with a record, who would you rather hire without knowing more facts?

A couple of options;

Find another AF recruiter nearby. Even if he can't bring you in, he might be able to advise you better than this shitbag. He may actually be able to take you in though. Worth a shot.

I don't know how recruiting cycles work, but if you can find out when one ends and another begins, he may be hurting for people and he may pay you more attention.

Tell the shitbag you're talking to the Army. Sometimes that'll motivate them to get off their fat, lazy overpaid asses and do their job.

When it comes to jobs, they handle that at the MEPS. After a full day of complete ass-hattery, anal probes, blood tests and other stupidity, they'll take you into a section where they expect to feed you into the system and shit you whatever job pops up. Yah! I get to pass out towels at the gym!

Don't take it. You can seek vocational areas, like mechanical, admin, medical and general. Not ideal, but if you have no training, no skills and no exact job in mind, it can help.

Otherwise, tell them you'll come back another day to try the job market. they won't want to hear that, but oh well. Jobs are spit out constantly.

There are some constant jobs; CCT, PJ, i'm sure the cops are always hiring, and so on. Ask about those jobs.

If they offer you a job, ask others about it. Don't just read their cookie cutter desecription of the job. Ask people who know and give a shit. Some jobs that sound great really aren't. Some of those jobs have a big recruiting bonus for a reason! nobody wants them!

Keep us informed how it goes. One concern i have for you guys is being husband and wife (I assume), going in together. I knew a guy who worked on the B-2 bomber. His wife worked on the F-15. There's only one base in the world those two could ever be stationed together, and that's Edwards California. That can get rough. It may take some sacrifice on someone's part. one of you may take the "Cool job", being a PJ, while the other may have to take the common job, like admin, medical, etc.

Wow thanks for all the great responses guys. Ill try to keep everyone informed as this can be a lenghty process, and go knows when Ill get a call back.

Yesterday I had called a recruiter in a small town back at home (Wi) he told me.. "umm DONT LIE" and then basically said he wouldn't see a problem with my waiver at all and wanted to talk to me tomorrow.. Ha I wish (still in Fl).. but I guess goes to show you. I do plan on swinging by his office next month when we go back for vac. Now that im armed with all the fkn paperwork they required me to have ad wait for here, should be a smooth process long as he keeps the notion of I don't see it a problem at all.
Just remeber that a recruiter's basic job is to get warm bodies in the door and meet his own goals, and *not* to get you to be where you want to be in the service.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard people say "well, my recruiter lied to me..."
I retire in 2010 and trust me you've got some great advice in these posts. At least you're not going in unaware of what's waiting for you! j_tudeski's right, you will work with some great people, I have a feeling he worked with the greatest TSgt in the AF

Anyway good luck and stay the HELL away from the language test!!!!!
