This is my first AK and my first build. It is a 1976 Non-G kit from Apex on an NDS-1 receiver. I used most of the jigs from AK-Builder as well has his rivits and some of the compliance parts. Armory trigger group from NDS. The worn finish on the kit was beautiful so I just hit the outside of the receiver with some cold blue and used Brownell's Alumihide on the interior of the receiver where I was worried about rust. I still need to lightly brush the outside of the receiver to get it to match the kit better. I stripped the stock and handguards, lightly sanded them, and finished with about 8 coats of BLO. The front grip had "Monia" and "Mony" carved on one side and "Luminta" carved on the other. I'm guessing that was the soldier's girlfriend. Took it out and shot it and found it very pleasant to shoot. I had never shot an AK before and found that the trigger is not heavy but has a very long pull. The sights are not what I'm used to and because of the finish wear they really glare so I hit them with a little smoke so could check the groups. It held just over an inch from the prone position at 50 yards. Not too bad for such an old rifle. I'm not going to say it will replace my AR's, but it sure is fun to shoot and easy to clean! M0ondoggy's videos were the biggest help I had. I took the Toughbook to the garage with me and watched them while building. Great instruction. Thanks!!!! So I'm one down and six more to go!

Found something interesting in the kit when I took it apart. There was a balled up cigarette package stuffed down the bolt carrier against the back of the piston. Didn't really know why till I put it back together. Talk about battlefield repairs! Is there any way to repair the spring links. I want to keep the takedown button because the serial number matches.

Moondoggy has helped countless builders along in their quest for the AK build. I had planned on doing a video myself, but when I saw his I threw up my hands and said, the hell with it. I'll never top that. Kudos, my friend.

I just drilled the front and rear trunion holes in an NDS-1 receiver. This is the first one that I've done. Thank you m0ondoggy for showing me how to do it. My setup was a little different, but I used the same basic idea. Here's a video:

I know. The video's not up to m0ondoggy's quality, but I'm learning.

Here are the results:

The thing I like the most about m0ondoggy's video is, is you actually get to see someone building an AK. Pictures are fine, to a degree, but to actually watch the process in motion is pure gold! :hail:
