I need good information regarding all of the above. links will be efficient or if you know any good reads on the subject I would be interested in that too. also veiw points will be great if you want to share them.

if your school is anything like mine, get ready for a meeting with the dean of students and a mandatory talk to a mental health professional
Make sure you read and reference the 1934 NFA, the 1968 GCA and the 1986 Volker McClure act with respect to the Hughes amendment.
thanks, any view points? you wish to share? what is your reasoning for owning these kind of weapons? no I'm not troll account or some lib.

I can understand a doing a paper regarding how the 2nd Amendment "relates" to public safety, but using "versus" would lead one to believe that they are at odds from the start.

In regard to reasons for owning these kinds of weapons, I approach my view of our freedoms from another standpoint. I don't ask anyone to justify why they do something. So long as someone else does not violate the rights of another, they do not have to justify their decisions to others. Therefore, if I want to take the position that someone else shouldn't be allowed to do something, I must demonstrate how what they do violates the rights of another. Looking at it from this standpoint coupled with the overwhelming evidence that firearm ownership actually makes our country more safe and more free than it would otherwise be without it, the only logical conclusion is that there is no reason to outlaw it. If the exercise of actions are approached from the standpoint that they must be justified by the greater good in order to be allowed, then we won't have any freedoms because there's always someone who disagrees with what another is doing. Personally, I own guns, including SBR's, for two reasons. The first is because they're fun. The second is because others who do not value our 2nd Amendment rights are opposed to me having them.

I see your point but this paper is to defend the gun rights, our rights are under attack, most people believe guns to be a public saftey issue.

i can not find any information reguarding violent cirme and NFA weapons. UCR does not break them down to that category.

OK, but you shouldn't start off by accepting the false supposition that freedom and safety are at odds with each other. Study the relationship and use the evidence to demonstrate that the supposition is incorrect.

Google and the forums would be a great place to get the bulk of your info. After you write your first draft, post it up here for a free peer review.

Try not to put emotion into your paper, I did one on second amnd. and every time I started writing I would slowly start to go off then I would reread what I just wrote and to someone else (gun-uneducated/affraid etc) it would seem that I was a wacko, even though what I was writing was totally true and not crazy. Just try to present things in a factual educated, reasonable (look at/adress both sides) way as to not alienate yourself from those who are complety agsint guns and would take the stance of "oh he's just an anarchist or columbine kid" and blow you off. I learned this the hard way about talking to non gun owners about guns and gun rights, the way we talk amungst ourselfs is not how we talk to the "outside world".
I would also mention the fact that some countries like Switzerland let people own automatic weapons. Unless they have changed their laws, reserve troops keep their weapons at home, and are responsible for their maintenance, and safekeeping.
How many deaths are attributed to those "assualt" rifles in Switzerland? Might be an interesting thing to add to your paper.
Also, in some countries, silencers are considered polite on public ranges. As owners of supressors will tell you, they don"t work like the movies, they still give a report when used.
Let us know how you make out. People are generally afraid of what they don"t understand. Mabey a well written paper can let people see the responsible side of gun ownership.
