Gun show SUPRISE!!! goodies and are these AR's worth it?

I'll adress everything backwards... The ARS, two DPMS's? and a colt upper with bushmaster lower each for 700. Worth it? I do remember that there are no good sub 1k AR's but are these???
Goodies: I picked up a clear AK mag, cheap 54r ammo, cheap x25 ammo, THUNDERWEAR and... a sling.
SUPRISE: Somebody fired off a blank. I dont know the whole story (if anyone was at the boise gun show/reads about it I'd like to know more) the guy at the table looked suprised, heard him telling a sherrif that the zip ties were in all the barrels, scared the crap out of everybody, could see who was still carrying even when they weren't supposed to by who grabbed for their guns, real bummer too, I was on my way over to his table to talk about a gun he had, then he wasn't allowed to sell anymore and forced to leave. I heard that a couple years ago people were sneaking bullets into barrels for people dry firing... so then they came out with the zip tie rule.
QUESTIONS: has anybody else had this happen before? How could a blank find it's way into a zip tied barrel? how would you act? My reaction was "shit, my guns all have zipties in the barrel and are unloaded" and just looked at the sound wide eyed.

At the last show I was at, dude dropped a bag of .223 ammo and a round went off. No one was hurt and the thought was that the tip of a bullet lined up just right with a primer and boom. Guess that's why they box ammo  .

I've built about ten AR15 rifles that would like to have a word with your beliefs.
all good brands, from what I know of AR's
ummmm from another thread about 3 days ago..... I havent purchased one myself,,, you'd say that the dpms and the colt/bush are nicely priced? Point is, I'm an AK guy and dont really know a lot about AR's other than Colts are probably way up there... anyways, didnt mean to step on any toes...

Any other gun show insidents, anybody else from boise know what happened?
No offense, but those standards are also coming from people who spend $200 on a tool to stake their carrier key screws.

Yes money buys quality, but many of these guys worship brand names to the point of it becoming silly. There is a point of diminishing return, and spending 200% more to buy a noveske product versus a CMMG or the like just to impress your buddies is silly.

Assuming the colt upper isn't ragged out, the bushy/colt mutt would probably be the better deal. The problem with mutts and used AR15s in general is that you really don't know the brand of the internals(unless they're marked and you're allowed to look) and bore condition is sometimes hard to gauge by eye.
I don't allow my CCW to be zip tied at gun shows. If they found out, they'll ask me to leave, and I'll leave.
My brother-in-law owns a DPMS, and is very happy with it. I think he paid around $700.00 for his.
if i was on a budget but wanting a high quality ar i would look very seriously at charles daly
Steve, good call, the reason they were ziptied I was looking for a compact xd45 to switch for my normal xd45, so I had to bring that to trade, nobody was up for it, so if any of ya'all are up for the trade, I'm still game! and the revolver to try them in the tunderwear before buying... the guy working for them is very helpful and nice, have to recomend them in part for that. So I wasn't really concealing.
You know... I've been an advocate that gunfree zones aren't the safest place to be without a gun, but I figured a gun show with guards all over and check spots and zipties ect... ect.. would be a safe enough place, and who'd start shooting where there's tons of guns around anyways? but i may have to carry there too... Weird...
Hellfire, how was it handled after the .223 was fired? Here the noisy fairgrounds fell dead silent and the guards slowly went through the croud to the shot, nobody ran which is cool, a lot were pretty scared, my eyes were huge.. An ironic thing about it is the seller was selling mostly guns with supressors, had a blank been fired from a supressed gun maybe four people would have known about it...

I know a guy from La Grande Oregon that was there and said that it was not a blank but a live cartrage..and there was a hole in the wall to prove it.
rtg, glad to hear another perspective. I remember the owner of the table pushing around some boxes that were a bit torn up by the wall, and it's definately feasable that some of the boxes were shot up, or the wall behind the boxes were shot up... I couldnt see any holes, and the boxes just looked torn from beeing roughly handled... but I could beleive that one of those were shot or the wall was, if your friend says the hole was near the floor, I wouldnt be suprised, but if he says the hole was eye level, I couldnt find one....
one note, the seller's a good guy, I do imagine someone sliped a bullet in there... doubt it was on the sellers side, but it's a bit scary thinking that bullets are finding their ways in there.
Do you know what dealer fired the blank? I am going to the same show this weekend in Spokane (their last show was last weekend in Boise) and I hope it wasn't one of my favorite tables.

How much did you get your ammmo for? I'm in some dire need of 54r and 7.62x25.
I own two Spike's Tactical lowers ($90 each) and a complete Rock River. They are identical in apparant quality. I wouldn't pay $1k for a basic AR, even a Colt, but that's me, especially a used one. Hell, CMMG had their bargain bin rifles for $600 and most of those were in fantastic condition.
Three or four months ago we had a live round go off at a Saxet gunshow in Austin. It was a dealer. I walked over to catch a glimpse of who had done it and the LEO that works the door was talking to him. I think I heard him say it was a gun they forgot they had in their stuff and so it was not zip tied, he found it and handed to someone else and it went off. The cop made sure it was now unloaded, and handed it back to him, and this "dealer" immediately, reflexively wrapped his hand around the grip with his finger curled 'round the trigger, as though he had never heard anyone say "keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot." I shook my head and walked away. They ran him off, and I understand that Saxet won't ever let you come back after an AD at their show. I can only hope.

+1 the CDM4LE, it's well made, and CD has very good quality control, IMO.

I made the mistake of buying DPMS and Shrubmaster before, and finally settled on a Noveske N4 middy. I'm extremely happy with it.
I think it was Freedom Firearms, and I would by no means say that to discredit them, they could have been set up for it, and the guy is a swell guy, I really like them and have bought a gun from them in the past, they gave me a great deal.
the x54r was anywhere from 21-25 cents a pop depending on what quantity you buy, it seemed everyone was selling heavy yellow tip, I just bought 50, so it was 25 a pop, and I only got 50 x25 and it was 14 cents a pop, feel like I should have bought them out though, it was yugo.
Prepare for disapointment, the prices were all high, the sellers were asking way too little for trade in values (325 for my excellent XD45/690 for a new one) and there wasnt a classic selection like of many comblock pistols... oh well.... but there is a guy selling Chinese ak drums for 100 each, it's an acessories shop... good luck, let me know the details,
Dale
Chinese drums for 100 bux a pop? I would buy them all!

I only want light ball non-yellow tip 54r. Ugh. I remember paying 9.9 cents a pop for light ball in cases just over a year ago.

Freedom arms. Sounds familiar. What did they sell normally?
Yep, was at the Indianapolis Stout Field National Guard Armory show years ago with my son, a dealer we will call "BOB" from Plainfield Indiana, shot a hole in the Armory roof. everybody ducked and I quickly went looking for my kid, "BOB" is still at all the shows and the look on his face standing there with the handgun in his hand pointing straight up...priceless. Glad no one was hurt.
Boboteck, I did see a bunch of non yellow tip light ball, though I bought a lot of that (just 50, not really a lot) the guy's selling things like supressed .22 rifles, supressed Walther p22, WASRS, a Galil, and a bunch of compact handguns, I would still buy from him, so no bad feelings about the accident, assuming that somebody sliped the bullet in and the ziptie was on, and it wasnt him... ...
HEY, if you find those 100 buck mags, can I buy one off you for 125 pleeze, PLEEZE I feel that's the deal that got away from me, it's at the booth with the huge sign that says MAGAZINES, and they only sell magazines for every gun.
Thanks! Good luck!
