Getting a new 5.56/.223....about 1K to spend.

I had planned to pick up a Sig 556 but that deal fell through. Since that deal is gone I've decided to still get a 5.56 rifle. I really haven't decided what to get though. Some options,

Vector 93...I had a HK93 and miss it but there have been issues with Vector(special weapons)recievers.

Galil clone...most likely a SER II. I briefly had an ORF built one with a couple of issues.

MSAR AUG clone...had a USR and really liked it. :heavy:

Sig 556.....never had one and it uses AR mags.

SLR106....it's an AK

I don't need any more AR's right now. I have 2 LMT's and a CMMG/Mega AR so I am covered there.

One thing, this rifle needs to shoot Wolf or other steel cased ammo. This rifle will get shot alot by the boys so cheap ammo is a must.

Any other 5/56/.223 rifles that I missed?

I would like to hear from guys who own one or more of these.

thanks!

I'd go with one of the new Aug clones. I've always liked those rifles.

ETA: SAM5, Galil, and the Daewoo rifles.

Yep...the AUG's are cool. I hear the MSAR is coming out with a AR stock verision. That may move it up a notch or 2.

I forgot I used to own a SAM5  Ran like a raped ape. A great rifle.
For about a 1k the Sam5 or the slr106 are ggod ones...all the others mentioned above are going to be over the $ limit...I guess you could go with a wasr or an sar, they'd both definitely be under the 1k limit...then of course you could think about a 74...the 5.45 is a sweet round and fun to shoot and it's steel cased and lower priced than most 223/556 right now.
not mine

1 day auction

then spend the remaining cash on mags @ $25 each or so
I like my SIG 556, I have been giving it a work out. So far it is 110%, and other than a bit more weight (M4 Compared) it is the best platform I have shot. SIG needs to get on the ball for parts, and accesories though. Second to that I would get a Galil Clone. Cheers
me thinks DrugRunR is making a good point right now.
Definitely the 106.
The 106 is my favorite 5.56 platform, it seems more organic than my AR, and shoots just as well inside 100m.

I fugured the 106 would get some votes. Have the feed problems all been worked out on it?
I would get a Century Galil. The mags are cheaper and they have better workmanship that the Arsenals. :peep:
I have a good idea for you me thinks? I always seem to get stuck in that 1/k bracket lately when having money to spend on a weapon. What I would do if I were you is stay away from all clones and buy factory or factory pre-ban . Save up that extra 1/k plus and buy a factory IMI Galil , H&K 93 etc. Most folks seem to have problems with the clones. Save and spend the extra money for a quality pre-ban . It will hold its value more and it will work 100% when you need it too. If you dont want to take the extra time to save , you can still find some good pre-bans for around a grand or so. Daewoo and Valmet 76 are a good example. Good Luck !

Anything he buys now might be "Preban" next year.
I would get rid of my Galil for a Daewoo. I think the Galil is too heavy for a .223 rifle. I really like the Daewoos in Templar's post.

Let me be the first to suggest a Yugoslavian 90/95 if you can find one for sale. Heavy duty, adjustable gas system, heavier barrel than that 106, chrome with a 1/7 twist. I've seen a few for sale here and there... some in our classifieds section. If you can't find that, go with the Bulgarian or convert a Saiga.
Rob, You could be right about the next year pre-ban thing. I just don't see Huesain Obamba taking the election. Since the media is left wing and borders on propaganda , it may get scary for awile but he will loose by a large margin . The pre-ban statement was to relate to High quality weapons no longer imported since 1989 and not some shitty knock-off that you cannot trust your life with. I collect alot of pre-bans and also build . But when I build a weapon and it does not work it gets redone until it works 100% unlike most of the knock off companies . I have 2 IMI Galils and 1 Valmet 76 and they are a little on the heavy side but always work. The "AR" Galil is lighter and more handy without the bi-pod and wooden handguard. The Galil and the Valmet are the only 2 .223 AK variants that I know of that work 100% all the time. Example of .223 AK's that DONT work 100% , Chi-com 84 , Arsenal 106 and the Sar .223 abortions . It costs a little more to go first class but it is worth it !

I think McCain is more likely to pass an AW ban than Obama....

It has always been the moderate Republicans that have screwed us.

I also would take a Polish or Bulgy kit on a NDS receiver over a chinese gun anyday. I don't own a single chinese AK. I have had a few over the years, but I just never took to them. I wouldn't trade any of my kits built on NDS receivers for a Polytech.
