Dick Heller's Handgun Permit DENIED in DC TODAY!

(WUSA) -- District residents can start registering their guns today. But at least one very high profile application was already rejected.

Dick Heller is the man who brought the lawsuit against the District's 32-year-old ban on handguns. He was among the first in line Thursday morning to apply for a handgun permit.

But when he tried to register his semi-automatic weapon, he says he was rejected. He says his gun has seven bullet clip. Heller says the City Council legislation allows weapons with fewer than eleven bullets in the clip. A spokesman for the DC Police says the gun was a bottom-loading weapon, and according to their interpretation, all bottom-loading guns are outlawed because they are grouped with machine guns.

Besides obtaining paperwork to buy new handguns, residents also can register firearms they've had illegally under a 180-day amnesty period.

Though residents will be allowed to begin applying for handgun permits, city officials have said the entire process could take weeks or months.

D.C. refuses to register litigant's semi-automatic handgun

USA TODAY's Kevin Johnson reports that the District of Columbia refused this morning to register a handgun on behalf of the security guard whose legal challenge resulted in last month's landmark Supreme Court ruling on the Second Amendment.

Dick Heller was one of two applicants who were waiting at police headquarters when the doors opened to prospective gun owners at 7 a.m. ET. Officers wouldn't let him register a semi-automatic handgun because local laws still ban such weapons.

"The city still does not yet understand the decision of the Supreme Court," Heller says on the steps of police headquarters. "We have been denied again," he adds.

Dane von Breichenruchardt, president of the Bill of Rights Foundation, said the city was attempting to make gun ownership as "difficult and restrictive as possible."

"We're going to be back in court. There is no doubt about that," he says.

Under the terms of an emergency law that was passed earlier this week, residents may store handguns in their homes for self-defense purposes. Every gun owner has to pass a written test and vision exam, submit the weapons for ballistic testing and prove they live in the city.

Short of the prior gun ban, the provisions still rank as some of the toughest in the nation.

Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham said the regulations can be "interpreted" in various ways. "But this isn't a 'gotcha' program. We're trying to accommodate people," he says.
What a bunch of fools. I hope they jail the police chief for contempt. I am betting its the 1911 that the ARFCOM guys built for him.

Follow the rules or find another forum ...
if you are allowed a firearm for self defense but it has to be dissasmbled and unloaded with a trigger lock. and cannot posses a semi auto due to it being an assualt weapon, how many average people can dissamble a revolver and put it back togother in a workable state?

they must have had there best people writing this law.....
This whole attitude is abominable. They need to grow up and do what they were told about 200 years ago & re-interpreted about 2 weeks ago. You wouldn't put up with this attitude from your kids: why do we the people let them get away with it in our government ?

HEY, D.C: GROW UP ! YOU LOST ! OBEY THE LAW NOW !!!

They probably still think that AlGore actually won the election ...

Guilty until proven innocent because you don't like the POTUS huh.

FYI I watched the video, I'm a programmer myself. The guys entire testimony is based on theory, and by the testimony I can almost guarantee that he had nothing to do with developing the software in the first place, as he has no clue how they operate.

You better watch out - somebody in Microsoft or Apple could have secretly coded in a self destructive module into your computer that will log all your conspiracy theories and submit them to the gubbamint so they can put you on that "list" as well as skewing your income tax data you pay 2% above everyone else just to poke you in the eye. I know this, because some bum asked me to make such a program so I know it exists. I never lie either.

*back on topic*
I think the Heller case (and the attorney that started it all) should be allowed to sue DC for monetary damages in the amount that it would bankrupt DC - that, or everyone that stands in the way of the combination of the COTUS and SCOTUS should be removed from office. Your never going to solve the problem with the existing leadership in place - they think they are above the COTUS and SCOTUS. You can't take the corrupt morales and superiority complex out of the man, but you can sure as hell get the man out of the office. Don't force the issue on DC - force the leadership out of it and the problem is solved.

This wikipedia entry says that the claim was that it was meant for the touchscreens in West Palm Beach, FL but that they used punch cards there that election.

It goes on further to say that they claim the software would have worked in any machine which I find dubious to say the least.

I mean if that is the case, I hope nobody puts it in my microwave or my hotpockets will burn my mouth 51% of the time instead of 49% :goof:

Seriously, lets talk about a youtube link with broader implications:
MSNBC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-OpIXfXKO8

FOX News BUSTED:

Ex-White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said in a recent
interview that FOX News is often provided literal talking points by
the White House for its "primetime propagandists."

"Does anyone actually believe the right wing stuff they spout?" Asks
the MSNBC anchor.

Now, it's not like McClellan is some hero here. Obviously, he knew
about this problem way beforehand, but only decided to come out about
it after he was retired. For God's sake look at the footage of him and
Bush together! They might as well be holding hands.

While it's not rare for Fox News to be humiliated (in fact there is
even a website dedicated to it), the video clearly shows how Bill
O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are mere Ventriloquist Dummies for the Bush
Administration.

It probably won't happen, but I'm hoping that this finally brings an
end to the "Fair and Balanced" station for good. Let us take this time
to countdown the hours that FOX News has left to live.
