Commercial HK 416?

Does anyone know anything about the commercial version of the HK 416? All I know is that it's due on the market in fall of 2008. I don't even know what it's called. Any info at all will help...

last I checked, the 416 was not going to be offered to the civilian market, correct me if I'm wrong. Bummer, it's a wicked weapon.
Last I heard was late 2009... Wilcox is supposed to be the stateside contractor/builder (assembler) for HK on this project. HK and Wilcox are both very tight-lipped on the subject. "In theory" - parts are going to be mfgd in Germany (mostly), to be finished stateside... If the part is finshed in the US, it becomes a "US mfgd part" - for 922r reasons. SIG is doing the same thing w/the SIG-556 (at least the barrels). The 556 barrel blanks are mfgd overseas, but finished (cut/crowned/chambered/etc) here - making them "US-made."

As for HK actually being able to make this happen and put this kick-ass weapon system into "civilian" hands... I'll believe it when I see it
I hope it is not the same version (MR223 if memory serves) they sell in Germany.

The pin locations are shifted so that a real 416 or any milspec lower/upper could not be mated with the civilian offering.

That's some fairly solid information.

Budoka34, the MR223 was built to conform to German laws, not US laws.

Now then......some HK 416 goodness.......

And VA_Dinger with his:

Now then, if you're looking for a quality gas piston upper for an AR or M16, I'd look VERY seriously at the ADC uppers that will be available shortly.

Arnold Dew came up with a system that's very similar to the FAL, uses a tappet system, and is adjustable for different ammo and for use with a suppressor.

I've shot several of his uppers, he is a friend of Larry Vickers, and has his endorsement on these.

He'll initially have a 16" upper out as well as a 11.5". I'm going to get one of his 11.5".

We've run these things VERY hard and they just keep asking for more. Besides designing a hell of an upper, he's a hell of a nice guy too.

Mark5pt56, who's a member here, and a very serious guy, got a prototype upper from Arnold to run. To date, he and VA_Dinger have over 5K rounds through it (it's easy to do when someone else is providing ammo) with no issues.

Anyway....something to consider.

So I understood.

Would you consider starting another thread on the ADC system upper you mentioned.
The PWS system has been on the top of my list for nearly a year and I'd love to compare notes on the
Whats so good about the 416? I mean if its just a gas piston upper, isnt the market healthy already with other manufactures?

I personally dig the sig 556 if I were to spend the $$.

It's HK.

Makes the difference to some people.

Edited by Va_Dinger - that stupid "Why I hate HK" crap is worthless.
AKLover_91......how many AR gas piston systems are you familar with and have some trigger time behind?

Budoka, we can certainly start a thread if you want. I'll ask Mark5pt56 to chime in with his observations and another member and a staff guy on M4Carbine, GotM4, has a PWS he's been pretty happy with.

Between the PWS and the ADC system, I much prefer the ADC with it's seperate gas piston system vs. the PWS with it's rod attached to the gas carrier key.
Does ADC, Just sell gas piston uppers? (Thay got a a website?)
With PWS, You can just send them your upper and thay well mod it.
I'd love to see a thread on gas piston AR uppers. I've been intrigued for quite a while by them. But I'm not up to speed as I should be.

Yeah, so all this reminded me of an awesome post by Correia:

"In a world of compromises, some people put the bullets in the magazine backwards...

But it doesn't matter, because our gun is on the cover of the Rainbow Six video games. Look how cool that SEAL coming out of the water looks... If you buy a $2,000 SOCOM, you will be that cool of an operator too. And chicks will dig you.

At HK, we stuck a piston on an AR15, just like a bunch of other companies have done, dating back to about 1969. However ours is better, because we refuse to sell it to civillians. Because you suck, and we hate you.

Our XM8 is the greatest rifle ever developed. It may melt, and it doesn't fit any accesories known to man, but that is your fault. If you were a real operator, you would love it. Once again, look at Rainbow Six, that G36 sure is cool isn't it? Yeah, you know you want one.

And by the way, check out our new HK45. We decided that humans don't need to release the magazine with their thumbs. If you were a really manly teutonic operator, you would be able to reach the controls. Plus we've fired 100,000,000 rounds through one with zero malfunctions, and that was while it was buried in a lake of molten lava, on the moon. If you don't believe us, it is because you aren't a real operator.

By the way, our cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns like the G3 and MP5 are the bestest things ever, and totally worth asinine scalpers prices, but note that cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns from other countries are commie garbage(ak-47). Not that it matters, because you're civillians, so we won't sell them to you anyway. Because you suck, and we hate you, but we know you'll be back. We can beat you down like a trailer park wife, but you'll come back, you always do.

Buy our stuff.

Sincerely

German laws are not any different then US laws in regards to semis.. They sell and make ARs there that are identical to US market stuff.

Thanks. I just laughed so hard I shit myself ..and I heard the moon lava test was for real !
Dinger, I'll stand with you on this issue! The 416 has proven itself over and over where it counts, in the sandbox with folks whose lives depend on the quality of the weapon. As for the 91 and the 94 both guns are the among the most reliable ever built. Both were widely adopted by the free worlds elite forces. Although I don't agree with H&K's marketing decisions, often they have been influenced by our own government, I personally can't fault many of their products.

What calibers are they going to offer? Im in the market for a .308 or 6.5 Grendel.
Thirdeye, there's been some serious talk of a 6.5mm Grendel, but he wants to get his 5.56mm uppers in porduction first.
