The question comes up from time to time,is the buttstock from the Chinese Pellet Rifle the same as the one on the Side folder Chinese AK?

No,although they appear to look the same, they are,in fact, quite different. The trunnion hole pattern is totally different and the guage of steel on the buttstock of the Pellet Rifle is thinner than that used on the AK.

The ones I've looked at did not have the provision for a cleaning kit.

I'll get my Chinese sidefolder back from In Range this Friday,it's been a few Months since I've seen it,and I'll let you know for sure but I seem to remember the scales from the AK being heavier than those from the pellet rifle.

Look at the post in this forum on the Type 81 rifle. The air rifle is a Type 81 training rifle and the metal is ordnance grade steel.

Thanks for the clarification sct1886, I've had several People ask if the pellet rifle and folding AK stocks are the same. They are different but I'd love to get my hands on a Type 81!

Air Rifle stock to AK

I took the stock from one of these air rifles and welded the stock to a cut down standard rear trunion to build an AK. My welding was not pretty but it got the job done. Nothing else from the air gun will work on a real AK.

The rifle is a Hunguarian SA 85 built on an AK builder flat with a Chinese top cover, US muzzle nut, TAPCO G 2 and piston. The pistol grip is the orange stained Chinese grip. I will put the stock on a MAC or Poly rifle if I can snag one for a good price.

How much are those air guns going for?
I saw one a year ago at a Lake Charles, LA show for $65. Seemed cheap to me, the rifle had a nice heft to it.

I'm 99% done with a build using an air gun stock. I also have an original Poly Tech side folder. The stocks and latches are identical. The trunnions are different. I cut and welded a standard rear European trunnion to the air gun trunnion after cutting it. One issue I noticed is the air gun trunnion is slightly thinner than the European trunnions. This is due to the Chinese receivers being thicker. So I welded on a spacer plate to get to the needed thickness. I also welded on an additional bar near the bottom of the trunnion so if I wanted I could use a third rivet to add support to the receiver. Ultimately I did not use a third rivet.

I'll post some photos of the rifle when I get a chance.
