I was at our local gunshop today and was looking at his WASR's and the ones he had were not even listed on Century's site. It seems Century is selling "G-Kit" guns now.............They are on NDS-3 recs and are built by a company that is beside Classic Arms in Indian Trail, NC This is the same company that turned out the chrome YugoSKS's that would not shoot. I wonder if Century is getting Classic to build them instead of building then their self?
Here is what frankensteins I saw:
1. MD-75?............A WASR-10 w/Romy rec (X,Y present), US(K-Var?) 74 style black plastic stock and the TDI forearm, Romy-looking barrel, WELDED-ON muzzle nut, no bayo lug.
2. NDS-3 rec with a TAPCO G2 single hook trigger(NoDak website says this is a NO NO, can cause malfunctions), built by ECD&T Indian Trail, NC, some kind of weird black 47 type US plastic stock, Romy barrel, and rec was blued but wasn't even close in color to the rest of the gun. Was obviously blued before it was built and rest of the kit was original finish.
3. NDS-3 rec and an obvious G-Kit build with same NO-NO trigger set up, G was partially removed and bluing was buffed off of front edge of RSB, US Tapco slant brake, plain wood(US?) handguards..not laminated, and a G-Kit buttstock.
The dealer said he had not been able to get any of the old style Romy for a while now. Maybe there is some truth to the import slow down.
These were really POOR examples of workmanship and overall quality. Almost looked like they were trying to clear out their dead inventory of dragunov-style stocked guns and post-ban 10rd gun that weren't selling along with some really nice G-Kits that had been bubba'd up.
If this has been covered before please forgive me............Just my observation today and thought it was odd.
