Here is a pic I came across showing Colombian government forces displaying ChiCom Type 56 AKM rifles captured from the FARC guerillas.

I thought my comrades use russian and korean ones...
I think they should be forced to cut them up, and send the FSB, and stock sets to the US!
demill the recievers and sell them to me as parts kits!!
I still wonder why didn´t Chinese switch to AKM design when they moved to stamping.
I guess they just stuck with what worked for them. And I'd guess they didn't have to go through the hassle of a lot of re-tooling their machines for a new design - they could save time and money continuing to use existing stuff.

Probably. Still, they could have made changes to at least some of the AK-47 components.

Because by that time, the Soviets and the Chinese were almost in a shooting war and the Soviets weren't going to give the Chinese the tech package for an AKM like they did for the milled AK-47.
They just need to send all of those they find to me .....I will make sure they never fall into the wrong hands again ('cause I plan to keep them)

Still, the ChiComs managed to get their hands on a RPG-7 or the plans and reverse engineer it to get the Type 69 rocket launcher. They may have got their hands on a AKM or it's plans as well.
It is possible that the Chinese didn't see a superior design in the AKM that resulted lower production costs and better performance
Whether or not this is true has no effect on my personal choice, considerably/rugged receiver, large doubled machined hook trigger;larger barrel ga tube...etc... yet some of us favour this.,rugged go to hell and back design vs. the lighter weight The Chinese had access to EastBlock AKM production by the early 1970's to compare with what they already had in poduction.
Euro-AKM's came into Haiphong harborHailong/southern Cambodia....etc.. en masse and were used in the war when Sino-Vietnamese diplomatic relations went south (metaphorically "south" then supplied the USSR, up into the the time of our pullout. From the record, they never seemed to need a change in their design, however small
