This is probably a very dumb question but being an extreme noob with AR's I don't know the answer. Is a buffer supposed to have a rattle to it when you shake it? My passion has always been AK's so I know nothing about AR's. Thanks for any info, I appreciate it.

Some might rattle. No big deal. Wait till you shoot it. It will sound even more weird till it breaks in. :)

Lube it up in there. Ar's like to run wet, real wet.
No, do NOT lube up the buffer. A light coat of oil on the spring and buffer, but you NEVER run that part "wet". When you get used to an AR/M16, you can tell by the sound when its empty.

You are right, dont make the spring dripping wet, but do lube it, for sure, 100% without a doubt. There is nothing wrong with lubing everything on one of these things. Well, everything except the detent springs the firing pin, those only get very light coats.
