Your best bet is a full sized ACH. Don't get the cut down models unless you have a legitimate need for the commo rigs. Looking cool doesn't count for shit when the bullets are flying.

The newest models made by Specialty Defense are supposed to have slightly improved ballistic protection in what's considered the same helmet as those made by other contractors.

Our Kevlar helmets are not that bad. If your looking for a total bulletproof helmet, the Russians issue those, but they are VERY heavy.

New ACHs are lighter, and more comfortable, but you do not have the coverage on the back of your head like the original ones. They had to do this because of the collar in the body armor...it is difficult to get in the prone, and shoot well.
The older style Kevlar helmets work great with the Oregon Areo padded inserts that are almost like the ACH ones.
I started wearing the old M1 steel pot in basic, then the older style Kevlar for 20 years after that. Trust me, all helmets are heavy after awhile. My favorite is the ACH hands down.
Yea i had the steel and then they switched us to the older kevlar aswell where is the best place with the best price on the ach--- and that russian helm where can that be found if at all

I"ve never looked at the best ACH prices, since I have two of them. The Russian helmets that I mentioned can usually be found on epay from a guy in Germany. His prices SUCK.

ACH will run from $350 and up. The Russian helmets will be more like $400 and up.
Just get a PASGT and update the liner/suspension.
I'll take my MICH over anything I've worn.

It has very good protection.
Allows the use of earpro and comms and best of all, No headaches!
Hey thanks for getting back to me guys any links to this info you are giving would be great. :goof:

Here ya go:

ACH - http://www.botachtactical.com/msagatcmihe.html

Russian - http://cgi.ebay.com/RUSSIAN-ASSAULT-BUL ... dZViewItem

Another Russian example - http://cgi.ebay.com/RUSSIAN-ASSAULT-BUL ... dZViewItem

Ever wonder why Russian scopes and CCO"s sit so high? I"m betting their helmet design plays a role in that.

If it were me, I"d go with the ACH if ya got the scratch.
Anyone tried the surplus German kevlar helmets that look like the PASGT?

Seen these at a good price in the ShotGun News, but don't know anything about the quality...

The German helmets are excellent quality.
Good choice! I have the exact same kind of helmet retro-fitted with the upgraded suspension. Used it in Iraq a few times, but the MICH was alot more comfortable, and worked better with a vest.

Has anyone upgraded the suspension/chin strap on the German helmets? They are currently a 3 point chin strap.
I can't think of one single legitimate use for this that I might ever have in my lifetime, but I just want one so bad:

Too cool for school!
I wonder what kind of abrasion resistance that face glass has? The ebay ads I'm seeing for it state that the glass is IIIA.

I do too, can not find them anywhere other than the "replica" versions.
