I do not know if the bolts were identical, but the safety is on the center of the receiver, the pistol grip has different profile made of wood, there is no rear stock open button, and there maybe more...

the pps42 was constantly changing in production while Leningrad was under siege and guns were being hectically test fired near the factory at german troops. there are many variants of pps42 parts just like type 2 ak early production variants. everything was pretty much standardized by the time they renamed it pps43 in literature. early variants or random variants use the middle frame safety some use a side safety. if you want to locate an early Russian pps42 bolt you wont find one but you can use a kp m44 suomi bolt and recoil assy and weld in the numbers its identical except for serial number as that's what the finns copied a captured pps42. otherwise just use a pps43 Russian bolt its identical in late pps42 and 43.
