you should get one, a prius need a gun rack. maybe some pro gun stickers.

I dated a girl who drove one, it was wierd when just the electric motor was going and no radio. freaky quiet.
Until they build one that holds 2 Britax Child seats and the usual load
of supplies i buy at Sam's club every month, along with the double
stroller i need for the twins, they will be nothing but a novelty to me.
I'd need 3 of them to carry the usual haul i need to travel to see the
grand parents...No thanks.

My wife has one as a company car. Great mileage, space, etc., however, I hate the annoying "monitor" in the middle of the dash. Plenty of room for a car that size. Just a fuel efficient car, nothing more.
fuel effeicent yes, but they have no soul. what happened to all the cool cars. now they all just look the same, blech :bullshit: i'd rather walk.

i drive a '67 VW squareback ( i know, i know, VW's are for dirty hippies) sure i won't be doing any offroading, SHTF type stuff in it, but i can haul a safe full of guns to the range no problem. great gas mileage too. and no new fangled computer bullshit, i can fix anything on the car with basic hand tools.

just typing this has reminded me of why i love those old cars, i need to go for a drive....
Diesel über alles!
My neighbor has one. Nothing bad to report.

I never him come and go. They run in stealth mode so if you ever need to pull a sneak up/drive-by, this is your best option.

Also, he has two very small gas cans in his garage. They are him 500 mile emergency reserve. (-Note to self incase things get hairy around here).

I'm sure if you have a serious daily commute, this is the best car for you. Don't worry about any labels either, there's nothing liberal or tree hugger about saving $$ and being well prepared for shortages.
JohnO...????where are you going to put your legs????
My wife has one. No complaints. I'm 6'3" and I fit in the drivers seat. She gets some funny looks sometimes because of the NRA license plate holder instead of the expected Obama sticker.
Barry, it has more leg, and head, room than my Wifes Mountaineer. The trunk space seems sufficient as well as the hidden space beneath it.

We'll more than double our gas mileage, the car will pay for itself in 5 years.

This one will be the "Family Car", my Wife will drive it most of the time. I'm keeping my Jeep!

I hear ya. We bought a 3/4 Suburban just to haul the family.(5 kids.)

We MIGHT be getting a Prius. At the end of the month we go out to Cape Cod and will be picking up my aunt's car. Dad just put her in nursing home. All Mom and Dad could tell me is it's a new Toyota w/4 doors and it's cute. They are not car people.
I think I would probably hang tight for 6 months to a year. I think you will see a bunch of cool new stuff coming out including Hybrids of cars a little more interesting.

on the quietness of electric drive:
"See the trees smile at me as I waft by,
and watch the children run into the road...because they haven't heard me coming."

using the touch screen to monitor power use:
"This I think is a particularly good way of distracting you from the child who's run into the road, having not heard you coming.

Actually, I'm being unfair...the Prius is so slow the child could run into the road, retrieve his ball and grow to puberty before you ever actually hit him."

I think it would be great until you have to start replacing insanely priced parts; you might want to check out the prices on various parts on it. I know a guy that sold his because of the parts and repair cost.
We live on a dirt road in a flood zone. Does the Prius have enough ground clearance to handle a getaway in such conditions?

Nope. You'll need Toyota's SUV hybrid for this.
Bad news about Hybrids, the parts as said before dont last and cost. That electric engine has a life span of 70k miles and costs 7k to replace when it's needed. SO by the cost of replacing that electric engine every 70k, gas at least used to be cheaper... Here's what I say, a ford focus is cheap all around and gets 40 some mpgs.... and 10 k to buy... or you can get a sweet commuter bike for 450 and have no miles per gallon, or a motorcycle... but no hybrids till they figure them out... you know... I hear Porsche's coming out with some hybrids....
I've never heard of the engine needing replacement after 70K miles, seems like internet lies.

If it were true why would toyota offer a 100k 10 year warantee on the hybrid system?

It is the battery that wears out at 10 years not 7 which is what people use to believe and I think that is what you have it confused with.

Either way, Hybrid means the driver has more heart than brains.

You can almost never recoup the cost of the hybrid versus gas price. I was looking at the Lexus RX400h, gas needs to reach 11 dollars a gallon for you to break even.

also, if you want a hybrid to save the world, forget it, it produces more toxins and green house gases in the manufacturing process that it is worse than gasoline engines.

Also, Prius screams White liberal Obama voting NPR listening homosexual.
