Could be that you have one from a batch with too much carbon in the steel....

couldn't you tac weld it back together then just file and finish?
I dont think its steel, its very light and looks like some really crappy pot metal. i dont think it would weld very well anyway since it broke in 2 places, one on the top near a screw hole and one on the bottom at the pivot point for the lever. Which also rules out just buyin a new lower. Thanks anyway guys. I guess i'll keep looking.
