I've had four Mustang's/Capri's. My current driver is a '88 notchback. Would love to have another '86 Capri.

Used to be, still miss it. 1986 GT. Early fuel injected car, speed density.
Did a bunch of work to it and Steeda was a good friend of mine, though my bank account hated him.
There hasn't been a true hotrodder's car built since.

Ive had an 86 Capri and and 86 LX. The head's on those 86 HO's sucked. Interesting that they went back to the E7TE truck head's in 87.

Yeah, lean burn heads. I ported them when I rebuilt the engine and they worked well but I obtained a set of the E7 heads for future work. When I sold the car I still had the heads but they, too, are now gone. The pistons in the 86 5.0 were unique, too. Forged flat tops and the compression was a tad higher than the 87 and on motors. IIRC, the 1986 5.0 horsepower numbers were about five higher than the 87. It's been quite a while so I could be wrong.

I have a 1982 with the early 4 speed. I really want to put a 5 speed in but am having trouble finding info on how hard it will be to do. I had a pretty sweet 91, but I gave it to my youngest son, and he has done some great upgrades on it. For the $ they are a pretty hard car to beat.

Posted these in an earlier thread a few weeks ago. I've owned pretty much only Mustangs since 1985. Currently have a 1992 GT with a 2003 Cobra drivetrain and interior with 462 rwhp and a 2013 GT500 624 rwhp (stock).

HK, factory HP on a 86 was 200. Most 87 up's were 225.
Ok, I'm wrong. I was thinking 1986 was 200 and 87 up were 195. Oh well. When I was done with my own it was a bit better than that but I never had it dyno'd so don't know exact numbers. Assembly was balanced, ported heads, Crane CompuCam, 1:7 roller tips. Got rid of the push rod guides and went with screw in studs and tip guided rockers. Exhaust was new H pipe, headers (FMS), and a Flow Master cat back system with brushed stainless tips because the early GT didn't have the skirt and those beautiful pipes could be seen. I always thought the 86 GT and later LX cars looked better than the later GT's and they didn't have all the weight of the extra GT trim.
Suspension was mostly Steeda, bushings, rear sway bar, K member brace, strut tower brace, adjustable strut mounts, Tockico (sp?) adjustable struts, bolted and welded in subframe connectors with seat braces. Springs were Kenny Brown sport springs because I could drive to the shop and get them. Loved that car, should probably never have sold it but life happened, marriage came, yada yada yada. Life went down hill for about 13 years until about a year ago but that's a whole other story.
Makes me happy to see there's still love for the fox body out there.

HK, I agree 100% about Fox body look's. I still like the Capri's better. The pre '86 interior I much prefer. The '87 up interior look's more suited to an Escort.

Jag, you are dead on about that interior! That's one of the things I liked most about the pre '86 cars, the interior looked better, especially the dash. Never cared for that later "pod" look of the dash. I replaced my 85 mph speedo with what was called a "pseudo" 140 mph unit. It had numbers up to 115 IIRC, then hash marks to 140 without numbers. Weird and I never saw another one.

I alway's liked the red lighting on the gauge's. The "egg" steering wheel was awesome. I still have mine from my '86 Capri.
