Any AR-7 owners out there?

I am really interested in these little carbines, especially since I see they have 15rd mags. I have found limited info on them suprisingly. Can anyone tell me about them? The Henry ones seem to get good marks.

I have one, it may be a lemon, but it FTEs all the time and the rear sight is Kentucky windage at its finest.

BTW, Its a Charter Arms AR-7 Explorer.

JM2CW, YMMV.

Damnit, now that im talking about it, Im going to go find it and play with it. I havent used it since I was 15.
I had a Henry. It was the worst jammomatic POS I have ever owned. I tried everything known to man to get it to work, with MANY calls to Henry. I joined a AR-7 forum also. Every newbie on there came on with the same thing " Help my AR-7 Jams!" The mags are the weapons weak spot.
Thankfully the receiver cracked! I sent it back to Henry and they replaced it with a new rifle. I took it to the very next gun show and got rid of it.
Does not sound too promising.

Your experience is the norm. I had one and dumped it fast. Perhaps the worst firearms purchase I ever made, ever and that includes a Jennings .22 pistol that was far more reliable and accurate than the AR7 with any ammo at any distance.

My advice to the OP is that this would be one time when a pointy stick would be the superior weapon.
I have an original Armalite AR-7............nothing to be too excited about except that it's an original Armalite.
Ive thought about getting one of these before
how much do they cost
I have tried to like them. I have had several, and they are pretty bad. I like the idea of the AR7. It is one of those guns people love or hate. I just figured a 10/22 was more realiable, easier to shoot, get parts for etc.. The mags are the weakest link in the AR7, and cause 95% of the problems. The 15rd Mags are the worst. To top it of most mags will not interchange. Also the Henry Models are the crudest, and the parts do not interchange from the other brands. Find a Charter Arms, or AR7 Industries at a gun show for 100$, and try it out. The Armalite's are cool because it was a "Bond" gun ( on Thunderball I think, and Q said it was a .25). Oh well hope this helps Cheers.
They are around $200.

I believe it was "From Russia With Love". I've wanted an AR 7 ever since I saw the movie as a kid.
I had an old Armalite AR-7 and it functioned pretty well for a .22LR.
Never FTF or FTE and it was okay for rabbits & such.
I do remember a guy having one chambered for .a larger round but I've never seen one advertised or reviewed anywhere. I saw the mag he had and it was larger than mine. It did not even fit my gun. I want to say it was .22 mag but this was like 1972 or 73 and I just don't recall.
The biggest problem with these rifles/carbines is the magazines. They are very cheaply made and the feed ramp bends easily which causes many of the problems.

I have something like 8 magazines 2 of which are the 15 rounders, only 2 eight rounders work, the rest, well, cheap crap.

If the magazines were better, it wouldn't be such a "jam-o-matic".

got an old armalite w/no stock at a gunshow years ago cheap. found a henry stock on ebay for it feeds everything i put in it. fairly accurate. prefer a nylon 66 for a lightweight .22 though.
I've had 2 an original Armalite and an Israeli Pilot model. Both jamed alot using many types of ammo. Sold them a couple of weeks after getting them and never looked back.
