ammo rant

alright guys i recently picked up a cz52. i ordered 144 rounds romanian from jg sales. i have heard that you will get a couple split cases per box. so i only oredered a couple boxs to try it out before ordering a case. now a couple to me means 2,3,4,5 maybe even 6 split cases per box. out of the 144 rounds i received i got 50 yes 50 split cases. i called jg and asked if this was the norm. i was told that this is indeed the norm with surplus ammo. and that it would not effect the function at all unless the bullet was loose. i told them that most of the cases were split past the shoulder and half way up the case. he told me that the case just holds things together and that once in the chamber it didn't matter, and again if the bullet was not loose to go ahead and fire. i am not a class 2 manufacturer but i'm not completly stupid either and this sounds like a recipe for disaster. if i fire a gun and the cases come out split i wouldn't fire it again until the problem had been resolved, so why in the world would i put a split case in in the first place. so i told him no thanks. at which point he told me that they would exchange them for me. which by the time i pay for shipping again would be a waste of time. if they wanted to help they should pick the splits out on there end before they ship. overall not very happy and there lack of knowledge of firearms and ammo scares the hell out of me.
so my question to you would be first" am i just being a bitch and this is indeed the norm for the romanian.
and second is the chech any better or anything else for that matter. i hear the chech is dirty but if that is the biggest glitch i could probally live with it. i don't need it to be super accurate i mainly just got this pistol to supplement my 45. you know cheap practice.
sorry to go on, and thanks for any advice you care to give.

I am not sure about the Romanian but about 20%-30% of the Bulgarian 7.62x25 have split necks. Once fired, close to 100% have splits. Accuracy is not very good but I have yet to have a FTF in either of my CZ52s. It goes bang every time and ejects the spent round a good 20-30 feet.

I always do a quick check of my ammo and of the 800 rounds in my last tin I think there were only 2 or 3 that were so bad that I pulled the bullet instead of loading them in the mag. Splits are just a way of life with a large majority of the surplus 7.62x25 on the market right now. Being that it is the cheapest surplus ammo by far, it is really hard to complain. Even if you threw away 50% of the rounds, it is still way cheaper to shoot than 9mm.

The Czech on strippers seems to be much nicer. I don't remember seeing splits in any of the 60 or so rounds I had.
thanks for the reply rockhound. are you saying you fire the split cases. i have found a pretty good deal on yugo ammo any word on this. thanks
alltough as a side note the price goes up because of the splits. after shipping i paid 38 something for the two boxs, like i said just an expiement. would be alot cheaper by the case. but considering i had 50 splits that brings the price to about 40 cents a round. but like you said still cheaper than a 9.

if you do shoot the splits what is acceptable. i can snap some pictures but i'm pretty sure they would be hard to see on the puter. most of them are split from the edge of the neck rearward about 1/2 or 5/8 of an inch. sorry to be a pain but i have shot thousands of rounds over the years and i have never seen a split case untill today.
Probably 70% of the Polish ammo ive shot splits at the neck after firing in my TT33, after the first couple batches I stopped paying attention since these arent for reloading. Pass on the Yugo stuff, the primers on a lot of them take a couple whacks to go off.
Hi, Split cases are very, very common on 7.62x25 caliber firearms, the reason behind it is unknown to me. It will not, well most likely not , cause any functional or safety concern either, the PPsh41 I owned have a 99.99% split case rate, but never had any problem related to that.
i thank everybody for there input. this is the first firearm i have owned in this chambering. but just to be clear i have not fired any of this ammo yet. they are split that bad already. it kinda sounds like people just go ahead and shoot them is this true for you guys i mean do you think its safe. sorry confused. thanks again.
I have bought alot of Romanian, bulgy, and yugo ammo, and have not yet seen a split case. I guess I am just lucky.
I HAVE BEEN BUYING 5.45 FROM R-GUNS AND CAN SEE NO SPLITS WHILE LOADED, A FEW SPLITS AFTER SHOOTING AND SO FAR NO PROBLEMS.PICK UP IS EASY WITH A MAGNET.
definatly stay away from the yugo stuff.my cz hated it and it took 2 or 3 tries to get it to fire.
I didn't experience split necks with my Romanian, but then again I only paid attention to it the first box... so they could have been splitting afterwords...

Regardless, I do not think it is normal for Romanian, but it does seem to be a common problem.

"alltough as a side note the price goes up because of the splits. after shipping i paid 38 something for the two boxs, like i said just an experiment. would be alot cheaper by the case. but considering i had 50 splits that brings the price to about 40 cents a round. but like you said still cheaper than a 9"

assuming 130. for 1224 rds. 130.00/ 1224rds = .10620 per round. now if we through away a third(408) like i had to because of splits that would be
.159 per round. still cheaper than 9mm by the case.

if you do the same math with throughing half away for splits like rockhound says. then your are better off shooting 9mm.

as a side note i just picked up a couple boxes of bulgy and only found 7 rds that were spilt to bad to fire imho. much more acceptable. havn't fired any yet but if that goes well i have found my prefered brand/country for now.

thanks to all for there input and sorry to be a bitch.
I just went through 50 (i think) yugos, and none had splits, the head stamp said 22 up top and 85 at the bottom... bought them for 14 cents a pop, not bad for just by the 50 and for no splits i guess... I dont have the CZ52 yet,,, but once I do, I can report on how many split after being fired.
