Why when you see wood furniture for sale, there is no top portion of the front stock that covers the barrel. I can understand this with SKS's because it's a PITA to tap out the holding pin and you generally break the wood. Thanks

Are you talking about "upper handguards" ? most sets for sale by members here have the upperes with them. And there are uppers for sale by themselves for good prices. Some folks do not know that the upper wood or polymere, "ROLL out of the gas tube, sometimes it a little tough ,but it does come out without breaking...
