Found a milled C39V2 for pretty cheap. Downside is the stupid rail mount and lack of a mounting spot for a cleaning rod.
But so far no malfunctions or any serious markings from firing. Nice trigger and control. I do want to replace the entire bolt carrier group and add that cleaning rod lug.
And to get a maple wood stock to replace the extra Russian red one I had. And bulged handguards. The rifle gets a lot hotter than it should.
Just keep checking it for abnormal wear and get go no go gauges ,because of my ban state NJ i had to go with a riley and they had past metal issues so i have faith and a magnifying glass
This is a good idea. An even better idea would be to get the Hornady headspace comparator. To use it you have to shoot brass cased ammo. You can then use it along with a caliper to take a measurement of the fired case. If the relative headspace doesn't increase as you fire the rifle over time, then all is well. If the relative headspace does increase, then you'll know that the rifle needs to be fixed.
Please practice good range or solid PPE discipline for a while. Especially after about 2K rounds, as Bret stated. Shoot the shit. Just make sure you're good. Just like any mechanical device you own. Except of course you can't take your AK to Jiffy Lube. And please, please, this is Moi Importante. guard our border down there in AZ. With a badass milled AK.
Never put one under the pillow. Never had a pillow but held one on my chest. Ready to go boom. Puckers the old hole. Know what I mean?
OP, just be carful with that rifffle. Nice wood grip.
