This is one of Atlantic's builds with a Polish CHF barrel on a Childers CG1. So far as I can tell, I have 11 matching number parts, and none of the numbers are a force match. It came with a generic US made black pistol grip and sugar scoop brake, but I dug around in my parts stash and found a 1/1 marked Izzy bakelite grip and a barrel nut. I have to say the action on this is slick as glass, probably even nicer than my WBP Fox or SAM7R. I'm not sure about the wood furniture being correct as the LHG looks like a Tula to me but I could be wrong. Only thing I wish they had done was use a 3-spot weld CG1 for these early kits.

Is that the Russian Paint from IntMilCo? That looks nice, much nicer than the Hungarian that I tried that paint on a few years ago. I am definitely not a painter, unless it rattles in the can.

And man, the numbers on the trunnion are razor sharp. Sweet looking rifle.

I'm in the early stages of (finally) building my '69 Tula kit. I've put it off for 5 years. May the Good Lord Kalashnikov help me and keep my hand steady on the drill press.

Atlantic did not use Russian paint on these builds. Its some form of black-teflon paint finish. Atlantic has offered a version with Russian paint, but it was built on a Childers CG3 receiver, while these have the CG1 receiver. The CG3 model with Russian paint has been out of stock for awhile.

Maybe one of the resident sling experts could let me know if this sling might be of the correct vintage for a 63. I looked through my box of slings and surprisingly found one with gray painted metal with flat rivets, but the stamp is not really legible. All the other Russian slings I have are the common 70's-90's yellow chromate galvanized metal with domed rivets type slings.

Yes that would be the right style for 63. The galvanized tab with flat rivets type ran from about 1953-1966, and then came the zinc plated round rivet style. These early ones were sometimes painted and sometimes not, with different colors being used, usually green or silver. I made a post on this thread about a couple of mine:
