One thing that you could do, is bend out the lever a little bit so there isn't as much pressure pushing down on it. You still want some pressure so it stays in place.
You are doomed. The scratch just sort of goes with the thing. I was real pussy-like on a new one I had one time and put a piece of black tape on the receiver. I generally always bend the selector out so it isn't so tight.
You can always tell a rarely used rifle - rusty selector scratch. :goof:
