Coolest AK to replicate with a WASR-22?

Got a couple of WASR-22's for my sons. I have one in the works, transforming it into something cool. Have the youngest boy's still to do. I'd hoped to get the long barreled AKT but never got one. Would like to model it after a unique AK platform without going Tapco crazy. Suggestions?

Looking for something a little more exotic... the boys have some really nice airsoft AKS-74's with real Russian furniture. Looking form something more unusual

If you remember I have done quite a bit.

Here is the Wasr22/PSL paratrooper clone I did

And here is the Wasr22/Russian 74 clone I did.

I also did an RPK clone from a long barrel AKT98 but cant seem to find the pics I took of it

There is only one choice for a clone: AK74M. The perfect rifle. No peers on this earth.

I can't think of anything I would have found cooler when I was a kid than an AKSU style one with a PBS type can welded on. Might be pretty damn time consuming to pull off though

That would be an interesting AK to replicate.

Any idea on how hard it would be to suppress a WASR 22?

OffrdMania, how did you do the magazines for both rifles?

I'm having issues trying to keep the 10rd Cugir mag seated inside the Tapco magazine bodies. I'd like to screw it in place, but I need to make I have the right height before securing it. But can't test since the bolt pushes the Cugir back into the Tapco.

The inserts come in a Cugir 5.56 mag body already. I used that mag body as a template to measure where to cut off the ears on the new mag. You have to measure up from the front and rear locking points and then scribe a line on both sides. I was able to do clean cuts with a cut-off wheel. The inserts will fit in .223/5.56 mag bodies no problem but you will have to shave the inserts if you want to put them in a 7.62 mag body since it has more curve. Be careful not to shave too much off though. Then secure the insert in place with the screw that was in the original mag body.

Debating the AKSU. My only concern is the weight with a fake can on it. That and I don't know of anyone having put a '74 style folder or an underfolder on a WASR-22 yet

The receiver for a WASR22 is the same used from an SAR2 which is a Romanian 74 essentially. I dont see the mods to be too bad in making those stocks fitting. Hardest being the underfolder and drilling holes into the receiver

Had an East German folder on it. Those stocks and Romanian just drop in. I was referring to a Soviet side-folder to make the AKSU someone mentioned.

This rifle will be my youngest son's. He's a light-weight and a fake can may be a bit much for a kid, especially on a folder. Couldn't hold the muzzle up to fire it if he ever tried with the stock folded!

You are talking about cutting a hole up by the trunnion for the locking hook for the Russian folder?
