    Zastava EZ9 contest winner

Zastava USA recently held a contest over the holidays. You simply had to post a picture on Instagram or Facebook with one of their apparel items. I already had a shirt and posted this pic to enter:

On December 26th they announced the winner and... it was me!!!!

After being delayed from New Years and a detour to OH it was delivered today, of all days, Serbian Christmas! Sretan Božić!!

I am thrilled to have won and it was the one Zastava CZ9x variation I did not have.

Congratulations. I won a Winchester SXP back in June. A gun club had a raffle giving away one gun a day for a month. I do not belong to that club but I bought a ticket anyway to help support them. I sold the shotgun to a guy who sold it to his adult son. I buy tickets from some local organizations like volunteer firemen that have gun raffles to raise money.

Thanks guys, @'garand'; I always seem to miss the gun raffles but hear a lot about them. This is my first gun win and one that I will keep. Range day tomorrow!

That was the only time I won anything other than a few dollars once in a while at bingo. Nice guns too.

Let us know how it shoots, and how easy it is to disassemble.

Will do, as for disassembly it's a breeze; lock slide to the rear, rotate take down lever 90degrees and slide forward/off. The rest is typical guide rod/spring/barrel out.

Pretty much a SIG copy then. Do SIG mags work in this?

Wouldn't go as far to say a Sig copy but inspired by, that and the Walther P88 with a Serbian twist. I do like how the slide lock/release and de-cocker are one and the same and ambi at that.

Range report: I fired 100/rds of PPU 115g, 100/rds of mixed ammo and 3/rds of 147g Sig hollow points flawlessly. Gold Dot 124/gr acted up for me on this one--failure to extract on more than one round. It could've been operator error or some polishing may be needed for those rounds. In all fairness military grade weapons were not meant to feed hollow points. The jury is out on that ammo but the rest did great.

The sights are tall and this is a beefy gun, so it will take some getting use to but I am pleased overall with my first range trip.

... forgot to answer; Sig mags will not work but if you modify Beretta 92 mags will work fine.

I'm not a huge proponent of handgun lights, but since it was a free gun and I found a sale I wanted to utilize the tac rail:

More thoughts on the Gold Dot HP; the more I thought of it the issue was the mag. The slide would lock to the rear, tap/rack/ready did not work, and when I hit the mag release it would feed. The rounds were not nose up or down and there was no jamming. As military style guns were not designed to shoot HP I can live with that. It ate everything else no problem including the Sig HP.

    I really like this gun!

    Simply said - no.

Beretta 92FS mags work if you add a hole for the CZ99 type catch in the front. Nice way to get an extended length mag. The Zastava mag followers seem identical to Beretta for the most part.

But Zastava mags are available for $22 each so its just easier to buy original Zastava mags.

Ironically the one type of ammo mine still worked somewhat reliably with was the gold dots. Wish they’d start selling the damn parts for them (as long as reasonably priced) so I can try a new extractor. Mine got to the point that it just wouldn’t extract for shit. Among some other problems.

Real shame, cause I got to liking the features of it. Very lefty friendly. Went as far as getting a rough cz-99 off gb, that I also liked but it too had problems. Not as bad but still serious reliability issues, so after some back and forth I returned that one. I got to liking their triggers quite a bit, and really liked the decocker. Felt pretty safe having one in the chamber with that thing.

Have you tried any steel cased stuff through yours? Mine hated that stuff even more.
