This. The reason I never owned a Tokarev was because of the stupid added safety, but since Classic got some very nice Yugoslavian ones in, then added a Glock style trigger safety, we now have a choice. If you go this route, be sure and use a Yugoslavian trigger.

I would pick the Tok for the history, and the cz52 if I only cared about shooting.

Like the vz52 rifle, the cz52 has only an incidental history of use outside of Czechoslakia and in combat.

The CZ is hotter than the TT33

    The TT-33's velocity is 420 meters/second (1378 fps).
The CZ. 52s velocity is 480 meters/second (1575 fps) with it's original ammunition.

That is one reason I like it a bit.

Don't order blindly, make sure you double check. A few weeks ago I inquired about the whole glock style trigger safety Tokarevs over at Big Sweaty Ben's, and they were out of stock. They said they didn't know if they were to get anymore. Again, this could've have changed by now, but I don't know.

I own a CZ 52 and two Norinco Tokarevs. One Tokarev in 7.62x25 and one in 9mm Luger. They both have external safeties. I have shot my 7.62 Tokarev a lot and never had an issue with the safety. The Tokarevs are easy to disassemble. Some people convert Tokarevs from one caliber to the other. Do not use Czech surplus 7.62x25 ammo in Tokarevs. The Czech ammo is loaded 25% hotter because it was also used in Czech submachine guns. CZ 52 is built stronger than Tokarevs and can handle it. A Tokarev in 9mm would give you a different gun in a different caliber compared to the CZ 52.

Thanks for adding that, because most people don't that and that will hopefully keep someone from destroying a pistol and/or injuring themselves.

I used to use surplus ammo in my 7.62 Tokarev. I think it was Romanian (definitely not Czech) but I can't remember it has been too long ago. I had a round once that caused the slide to not open. The bullet fell back into the brass. I finally got the slide to open after trying for a short while. That is the last time I bought surplus for the Tokarev. That is the only time I had a problem with surplus ammo in it. I used Sellior & Bellot after that without having any problems. I have a box of Winchester 7.62x25 but never shot it out of my Tokarev. I also like the fact the new ammo is noncorrosive. I know, cleaning a gun stops the effects of corrosive ammo.

I am lucky to have a Vietnam bring back Chinese M20 Tokarev and a standard cz 52 surplus pistol so I got them both covered. There was a member here who did a great job of removing the safeties and welding over it cleanly years ago but I forgot his name and not sure if he does that anymore. Still, I never got one due to the work and extra money involved in order to make it original again. Like I said, I had a bring back one so that itch never developed.

haven't gotten a Tokarev yet, but I did manage to get (2) Romanian 1224 round spam cans of 7.62 x 25 ammo the other day on a trade/purchase deal. both had the openers, so that was a small bonus.
