To Buy [or] Not To Buy: Chinese SKS

What are your collective opinions on the $299 Chinese SKS's that Classic is selling? I was going to buy a paratrooper, but the fella wanted too much.

    Thanks in advance.

From what I have seen its luck of the draw with them.

If you get a decent one I think its worth $300

Have them hand pick one for you.
They had so much cosmoline on them I doubt there will be any rust. Marks on the stocks are very common on surplus guns.
Expecting something perfect is kind of nuts.
I love well worn stocks they have character.

$299 is a bargain because these have been banned for a long time. I have seen some in stores at $500 which to me is crazy.

They have offered hand picked on a lot of surplus guns but not sure what the up charge is if there is one.
I watched their un crating video and there were a lot of nice SKSs in there.

I just bought one and selected (and paid for) the hand-picked and serial numbers matching option. I figured what the heck - I have wanted to pick up an SKS for some time seeing as I have several AKs and a fair amount of ammo in store. I can report back once I've received it although that may be a couple of weeks given the non-essential business closures in my state for the next couple of weeks.

I got one I'm very happy with it. I did the hand select for $20ish. Lots and lots of cosmoline...the barrel was completely full. be ready to spend a while cleaning...get a bucket and mineral spirits put all the parts in the bucket. On that note still trying to get cosmoline out of the wood...any tips?

Wait until a hot summer day and leave the empty stock out in the sun.
It will draw 90% of the cosmoline out in 3 to 4 hours and not stink up the house.

If your looking to have a ChiCom made one at a decent price and can overlook some of the wear and tear, its a decent deal. If you want a better example, have a look around because they are out there, but the price will be more.

May not be a good time to purchase a non essential item(s).

There may also be better prices on the horizon as money may tighten up a good bit in the near future..

Each to their own economic decisions though.
