Interesting 'shorty' SKS at my FFL dealer - Value?

    Hi!

Was in at my dealer this morning and he had just taken in a MINT / non fired Chinese Shorty (Paratrooper?) SKS.

    ser# 921889x

    marked: CJA SFLD, MI

Appears to have that same Russian Rear site leaf like mine.

What does anyone know about these? I can take pics if need be.

They were cut down in China for export. If it has a bayonet it's worth a bit more. The ones with blade bayos are worth more. Some are also Sino-Soviet.

Depending on price, I'd say go for it. They make good hunting rifles.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than $275 for one without a box or accessories.

I've never seen a paratrooper SKS go for under $300. Especially one in this condition.

Wait, can it take AK mags or is it a normal SKS?

Didn't even look at that. Which is more valuable?

    WHICH TYPE?

There are TWO paratrooper SKS rifles.

    1. Cut down SKS. Will have factory markings in a triangle on it. Worth about $300.

    2. SKS model S. Far less common. Will have no markings but serial number and import marking. Obvious differences such as shortened gas system. Worth $350-400.

If it takes AK mags and has a spike bayonet, it is the SKS-M. Worth more than the SKS-D, which does not have the bayonet or stripper clip guide.

    FINALLY...

If it takes AK mags AND has a plunger on the bolt carrier... Type 84. Worth $500+.

    I want to forget mistakes they've helped me make;
Its better to be broken, then to break...
