    Project "OPERATION IRAQI BLING"

I have to say that I have always been interested in the pictures of the gold plated Kalashnikov rifles coming out of Iraq. I've read as much as I can get my hands on concerning the origin of these rifles and how they were given to loyalists in the Saddam Regime.

Well...the time has come for me to move forward on this project and document the manufacture of one of the most popular Tabuk Rifles to come out of the Iraqi War.

Everything I have learned about the Tabuk Rifles has predominately came from The AK Forum and the many, many posts by our members that have been or are currently deployed in the Iraqi Theater of Operations. As such, I will document every step of the way on this project and upon completion will compile into an article and submit to one of the many nationally published magazines, with credit going to everyone involved including The AK Forum.

The finished rifle will remain with me and will most probably be a conversation piece for many years to come. I invite all of you to stay tuned to this post and watch the progress as it comes about.

    KF

The engraving reads: "Present by his Excellency Saddam Hussein, President of the Republic of Iraq"
"This is the AK 47 Assault Rifle, the preferred weapon of your enemy; it makes a distinctive sound when fired at you."

It looks like you'll be able to get many of the parts you need from a Yugo underfolder kit, but what bbl/FSB do you plan to use?

Modified Galil AR Front Sight Base Gas Block. The bayonet lug will be removed and the hood sight from a CHICOM FSB will be modified to fit the Galil FSB.

The Galil Front Sight currently has a higher profile than the Tabuk. Modifying the CHICOM hooded front sight will be a perfect match. Streettrends already did this once on the Tabuk Carbine that he built last year.

I just spoke to Roger Cope of Cope's Distributing. He has the Bulgarian Bakelite handguards and will be sorting thru them tomorrow for a nice set.

Everyone has commented the SER V is too costly at $1,185.00

How could they even consider affording this weapon which will be much more do to the custom work, gold plating, SBR Tax Stamp ???

The gold medallion will be a simple engraving of the Iraqi Eagle Crest.

"Soldiers of the new Iraqi army on parade at the ceremony marking the handover of Dhi Qar province from Italian to Iraqi control: they are about to march past their Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki. The eagle has been the symbol of the Iraqi military since the 1930s and is the national bird. Talil, south-eastern Iraq, September 2006."
