    Tabuk Shorty

You guys might find this interesting. This is a Tabuk "shorty" AKM. I wish that I had a better picture. It was fairly accurate but not reliable even with various types of ammo. It was also prone to "case-head" separation which I assume was from an oversize chamber. It did look cool, though.

The case head separations were most likely from shooting Iraqi ammo. Take a close look at some when you get a chance. Try it again with steel cased ammo, and I bet it works fine.

The stuff I had was crap, shittiest brass I have ever seen.

..and one more thing.. that magazine you have in that rifle? People on this board will give you a serious reach-around for it. You could probably get $300-$400 bucks, maybe more.

    EOD,
The case head separations were only with the Iraqi ammo. It had FTEs with Iraqi, Russian, and Chinese ammo. I wish that I had kept that magazine. I traded it ouff over there.

    SVT,

I'll see if I can sang a few next trip.

We still have a manufacturer who can duplicate the gasblock/front sight block if he has a sample or a detailed drawing.

If ONE, just one appears, we should let SVT or StreetTrends know. They can probably arrange to either measure the item or to loan it to our guy.

That way we'd have a forum sanctioned version (and another US part).

Most important, stay safe and thanks for being there for us.

My Iraqi's always called it the "commando version". I have seen these things have a variety of minor problems in the FTF/FTE. It is usually agood cleaning will sort it out (the Iraqis degrease with diesel, not the most effective method).

I have also tried to get anyone over there to chop the front end off with a cut saw and get it here so it can be coppied . An all out effort from all members is called for here.

Just be careful in asking someone to try and bring something back - even if it's a harmless part. NOTHING gun-related is permitted to be sent back by Joe. They way they threaten punishment, a little piece of metal isn't worth the heat.
