    1944 Mosin Nagant sniper

So I finally got my hands on it and today is my birthday so its a win win. The original for sale ad has some good info and pics so link is here.

    https://www.theakforum.net/forums/42...ssian-sks.html

I have always wanted one but was leery of the many faked rifles that seem to be out there and the high prices an original commands. This one is the real deal but the scope mount is not serno to the rifle. The import mark is super faint and under the barrel, had to look real hard to find it. Currently swabbing the bore in order to shoot it soon.

I am going to plan a Mosin day at the range in the near future to shoot all four of my rifles. Here are my crappy cell phone pics of the sniper. Enjoy.

    First, happy birthday Scotty.

Second, Looks like a solid purchase, congrats. I think what AKBlue may be referring to could just be grease, paint or a mix of the two. Just going off the other pics it seems a good de-gunking may be in order. If your curious and I'm remembering correctly your PU scope was made in Leningrad by Progress in 1943.

If fed good ammo the PU can be surprisingly accurate. Mine really like Sierra 174gr MK handloads. I've been meaning to try some others now that the snow is gone enough to get to my longer targets.

Adjusting you scope and mount can be a little confusing but this guide is very helpful,

Great score! Be sure and try some different bullet weights through it when you test it out, because some of these seem to like heavier bullets.

1st congrats on getting a PU sniper, the are a blast to own and shoot and is money well spent. As for ammo, out to 600yds it is hard to beat 147gr Czech LB silver tip ammo, though this is getting hard to find. Beyond 600 yds PPU 182gr Match Ammo is great.

Now for the rifle, i hope to get on my computer latter today to give this a good look over but here are a few of my observations.

The 1st one that leads to all others is the scope cancelation method. There is a theory that the asterisk style of canceling the scope numbers is an Albanian trait, which to all my research always comes back to a single source that has in the past not always been 100% accurate.

This may also explain the non-matching scope mount and scope since these where imported without scopes and mounts, but also opens up another possibility of this being a resnipered ex-sniper since they came in both with the holes in tact or welded over. ( though this one doesnt look like a resniper from what i can see so far).
The Albanian theory may also explain the handgaurd as it may be a replacement from Albanian service.

Now, all that said get this out to the range and give it some love.

Any problem can be solved with the proper application of high explosives, the trick is to not be around when they go off.

So fair weather and days off found me back at the range. After shooting I figured out the screws were loose. No problem, got them all tightened down. Have a variety of ammo to shoot and proceeded to do so. Chasing the poi around was a bit frustrating. I think time has not been kind to the scope, at times the rifle would shoot respectable groups. I will look into getting a reproduction scope for it.

Overall I enjoyed shooting it. I thought the recoil was not bad. Had a couple duds on my Chinese surplus ammo. Got a couple more spam cans coming from aims surplus.

I look forward to shooting my mosins this summer.

Nice! I wonder if there's a way to tighten up the scope? But your probably better off getting a repro scope for regular shooting.
