    Romanian RPK barrel proofs

    Hello fellow AK Forumers,

I have scored an all matching original barreled 1966 Romy RPK kit. I remember reading that the very early (circa mid 1960's) Romy RPK could have Russian barrels. There was a long and interesting thread here on the Romy vs Russian circle-y question. I am posting some of the barrel proofs. Can some of the more knowledgeable members educate me on whether I scored a real sleeper, i...e an intact Russian RPK barrel?

Great kit score, congratulations! Based on the most superficial of evidence, IMHO its probably Romanian. Look for any cyrillic letters not common to Roman letters, or vice versa. I believe the tip-off is that the "Y" stamp is a Roman rather than Cyrillic (У) font.

To be clear, I’m referring to the “Y” letters that are stamped, not the circle with the “
У” in it. The circle-У symbol is common to both Romanian and Soviet/Russian barrels.

We've got a hell of a lot more in common with the fellow citizens we're being trained to hate than the puppetmasters training us to hate them.

Thanks, AZAK, yeah it probably is a Romy barrel, now to build her up.
