Same guy as in the review. I can’t comment on the original poster or whatever issues the OP had with him. However I’ve known Rich for about 10 years and he’s completed easily a dozen projects large and small for me to my satisfaction, to include some quite complex ones.

He doesn’t use email. I’ve been to his workshop a few times in PA. His professional background is as a tool and die maker in addition to gun smithing he knows more than the average gunsmith about metallurgy and machining. He’s pretty old school but knows more than most about SVDs.

He’s something of an eccentric but he’s honest and reliable, and the one time something didn’t pan out quite the way I wanted it to (due to out of spec parts I provided) he didn’t charge me anything despite having done considerable labor on the project.

I have been told if I send a registered Assault rifle out of the state, I can't get it back - so I guess I have to look for a gunsmith in California.

    Yeah, California sucks.

I didn't find the old bolt yet and am starting to run out of places to look, but I did find the source of a smell in my garage - from a couple of months ago. Forgot all about this trap - in my maze of ammo can stacks.

Going to have to go get some cheap scrubbing stuff as I will probably have to throw away whatever I use to clean up this mess.

Hope it is dry, doesn't seem to stink anymore.

This thread is sad, OP has old bolt (that IMO could be fixed, probably an easy fix) but can’t find it, a new bolt; but doesn’t know how to make it work. And apparently California considers an SVD an “assault weapon” and OP registered it so he can’t ship it out for repairs.

Poor NDM-86 let me know where California touched you

yes you can get it back. You need a FFl who has a AW permit. It goes in his books as a gunsmith repair and out to who ever is doing the work. It ships back to him and he delivers it back to you as a gunsmith repair. No RE dros is required. I just went over this last week with the DOJ. Im an 07 FFL but dont have an AW permit. You will need to being in your AW registration papers for the FFL to copy for his records to show its a legally aquirred RAW. If the FFL has questions tell him to call his DOJ rep or the DES hotline for dealers.

For anyone else who might be looking for a Dragunov bolt...
