    I've been thinking....

Isn't the title of this thread kinda oxymoronic?

Like Jumbo shrimp? Stepping on a landmine safely?

Maybe its just the brown liquor...

Forget the scooter. Your old everyday fatass could do it.

I suppose it could happen with a lighter person who was pushing down quite hard on the ground too, maybe by running fast or jumping. Though anybody who jumps up and down on a landmine probably deserves the inevitable result.

Don't use a pogo stick in a anti tank mine field.

Otherwise you are pretty safe from tripping an anti tank mine while on foot.
Did a bit of sweeping in VN and was not concerned about stepping on the mine.
    Ambush possibilities were more worrisome.

I did run over and trip an anti tank mine in VN with a M113A1.
Blew a track, road wheel and ruptured the hull.
But relatively minor damage and injuries.

What happens when you decide to have a contest as who can find the most IEDs. Stay off the dirt roads we were told, but sometimes LTs don't listen.

Believe it or not, all the crew survived with minor injuries. Everyone was blown clear of the vehicle except the driver who was rescued before the ammo cooked off.

We had to to clear a Bradley that rolled over two TM-57s before we could have the M88 recover it. That is also when you learn how useless a mine detector is on a battlefield with lots of pieces of metal (shell fragments etc.) on it.

The other unnerving thing about mines it you usually discover you are in a minefield generally only after you are about a 1/2 way through it.
