If you have a real russian made AK (milled, stamped, folder, 47, 74, krink, etc...), post the arsenal, year, and full serial number (including letters) following the format the same as on the trunnion or milled receiver. Also, post what the rifle or parts kit is (ie; AKM, AKMS, AKS74, T3...).

*Please post the info only for rifles or parts kits that you actually own or once owned.*
Do not post the info of someone else's rifle in order to avoid confusion. Also, do not post info if your rifle/kit has been remarked or had the numbers changed, I would like for only true russian made serial numbers to be cataloged. Pics are not required but will be a great help.

About russian letters; if you are not sure what a particular letter is, then refer to this thread:
    viewtopic.php?f=20&t=98602
Just copy and paste it onto here.

    I'll start off:

    Izzy ?? 8211K /6 - T3 AK 47

1953 Izhevsk Type 2 . Letter prefix is Ya Guh(reversed upper case Latin "R" or last letter in the Cyrillic Alphabet)and a Cyrillic "Guh"(upside down Latin Upper Case "L") 5036

I was told years ago on a Military Course concerning materiel intelligence that ALL Sov S/N's and especially the letter prefixes are at RANDOM.BUT, last week while perusing this website here I find a Izhevsk 1953 dated underfolder(AK 47 S) with the SAME 2 letter prefix about 1200 digits before my rifle.VERY NICE piece it was too.I am in the process of rebuilding my own which has it's "unmolested" original receiver, dust cover, recoil spring guide, safety, gas tube and rear sight.Stock was sanded to perdition though and will be replaced with new original laminated furniture this afternoon and so will the original bolt(denumbered ,probably NON Russian; with flat firing pin)Bore is GREAT though.

Not many decent milled reciever rifles up here in the"Great White North" though so I can't complain.

    Cheers,

    JR

    Re: Russian Serial Number Thread

I've always thought that the way that the Soviets did S/Ns is that they would use a letter prefix from a certain number up to another certain number and then switch to another prefix and start over again. I may be completely wrong, though.

    Re: Russian Serial Number Thread

When I get my TIII fixed back from Turbothis, I will post sn w/ pic. I am really curious on the date of manufacture. It is an East German 'Lehr' trainer stub.

I just acquired Vepr-KM (VPO-136) with Izmash 1974 stamps, serial being 853472. Barrel seems to have stamps "H4 727" and possibly cyrillic letter "Ю" [yu] inside a triangle. Does this make any sense?

Thank you very much for posting this, what was the letter and number stamped on the top of the trunnion under the top cover?
