My Type II Russian. The receiver is not 100% correct, but close as I'm willing to go. The kit appears to be all matching on the major parts. The wood was sourced from different kits people. Z-Recto refinished for the previous owner.

    Next up for this rifle:

    Engraving (TBD)
    a nice Blue bath
Bolt carrier needs to be hard chromed or something.

How is that 'worn look' achieved? I'm guessing itís just a beat up Russian kit, however, what do you do to the brand new receiver you need to put on it to complete the build? Wear it down with scrubbing and the like?

Which types of Russian kits are most readily/likely available? Specific caliber? I donít own a 74 yet and would love a great Russian AK-74 kit.

What about matching numbers? Is it highly likely/highly unlikely to find kits with matching numbers?

I rubbed the receiver with fine steel wool untill it matched the kit, sorta.

As far as finding a Russian kit, nowadays it's pretty slim pickings. They turn up on gunbroker from time to time, most are in pretty bad shape and the ones that are'nt go for a lot of money. I have never heard of any Russian AK-74 kits in the country, only Type II's, Type III's and AKM's.

    My Two

These are my two Russians. Real 1944 Russian Ppsh41 with Polish wood. I took the Russian wood off to save it, and now I can't find it. The AK clone was a Romy G kit I added Russian wood, p-grip, front sight, rear sight leaf & top cover. sanded off the "G" then had the trunion and receiver engraved.
