Ah man, I'm really sorry to hear that Doug. I'll be praying for your family for sure. The document will be waiting and ready for when you are my friend. Please let us know if you need anything

I'm already seeing a nice, confirming pattern here, Jerry!

    Thanks

    1960 АН2819 Т37 DEACT

    1960 АН5783 Т38 (possibly 6) DEACT

    1961 ГШ5384 T52 DEACT

    1961 ВИ3359 T53 PLO Kit

    1961 ЛT2294 Т54 Loose Trunnion

    1962 ЛР7816 Т75 PLO Kit

    1962
    ТР4897 Т76 PLO Kit

    1963
    ЗM1743 Т97 DEACT

    1964 ГP7937 Г8 DEACT

    1964 ОУ6083 Е1 PLO Kit

    1964 НШ8063 Е6 DEACT

I think in the mid to late era forward, for Izzy rifles, the codes will get more varied or I just have too small a data base on these earlier rifles and it is a coincident that the codes are so sequential over a wide span or years.

Did this one come with an early pattern top cover?

That would be one with the longer (Izzy style) bottom indentation.

In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say IT HAS TO!

Gentlemen, we have ignored these forging codes for way too long. I predict they are gonna be a wealth of information we've always had access to but never took the time to decypher.

This is a very exciting research project for me, as you might imagine, and it's only made possible by the help, time and effort you guys have so unselfishly contributed. I'm sorry I have not been able to put in the same amount of effort thus far. I am keeping up with the progress, though, and intend to devote whatever it takes to get this sorted out, but right now Mom needs me a little more than usual. Well, that and getting some rest in between.

The important thing is that you guys are so supportive and sharing in your submissions. I've been very surprised and pleased at how many great examples folks have posted up in such a short period of time. I know there's quite a few of these kits (and deacts) out there to be checked still, so please keep it up, guys! Thankfully so, since the only way this will be a success is if we get enough examples to make it an accurate representation on a real world basis. Hell, it's already paying dividends in my mind.

Thank you very much for the additions! Worth their weight in gold.

I know what you wean about not having enough examples to make a determination! Isn't that always our main problem? think if we ever get a good picture of what's going on here, whether or not something turns out to be either sequential or in fact random, it will not be by accident or just a coincidence.

Jerry, for now I'd imagine our greatest wealth of knowledge and chances for decoding is gonna be the '68-'69 RGuns kits, sort of the Rosetta Stone if you will. With enough examples, we could map out a while year's worth of batch codes, put them in sequential order, determine how they are chosen and thus how many there might have been, and lastly, transfer that knowledge base to other years.

Another area I have a lot o hope for are the post-batch code time frame rifles. That means post-72 AKM's and even AK-74's and AKSU's. Those are already sequential so determining when during they year they were made is easy, but if we use that crucial information to decode and put the forging codes in proper order, we can use that info to further decode the earlier batch-coded rifles. Like using Greek to decode Hieroglyphs.

Jerry I'm starting to see definite sequential code formats within the '69 model year, which is easier to navigate due to so many of them being available to check. If i had to guess, this code is partly based on either the calender, or a sequential production batch code, or both. It could be identical to the codes US manufacturers used to stamp on rear axle center castings and so forth, which would indicate the month, day, shift, and so forth.

What's good for us is that they seem to be sequential, at least within each year.

You are correct, I posted pictures of this kit in one of the ID threads and you were very helpful in pointing out what was original and what wasn't.

Seriously? Wow. I don't even know in the slightest what to make of that?

It's gonna happen once in a while, but it doesn't really have to "mean" anything. Well, except that there was no coordination between factories in regards to batch code allotments. bear in mind each factory reused the same batch codes every few years or so.
