Saw that camo and thought Operation Flashpoint.

I love the platoon pics. Interesting to see who's carrying what and how they have themselves kitted out.

While doing a bit more research, I stumbled on this thread, which has additional pictures of more 1980s AK74 rifles converted to AK74M configuration seen in Crimea, along with speculation as to why:

Notable images (some or all of these may have appear previously in this thread):

Oh haha, I know that person who created that thread. In fact, I visited him three days back and found out more information regarding those "pre-M" rifles. I'll have to get the website he claimed it from but from what he told me, the "pre-M" rifles are not deacts at all. They are in fact old stock AK74s which were recut to the Type C rear trunnion back in the heydays of the 2nd Chechen War, when the demand for the new 74Ms was far beyond the supply that Izhmash could tool out. Unsure if unit armorers did the rear stock modifications themselves and handed them to units en masse, but either way, it explains the LACK of electro-penciled receivers which is a hallmark of MMGs.

Yeah, it veers into unrealistic speculation, but the larger pics and the fact that it was noticed at all were important.
