Only thing i dont like about it is the different color of the front trunnion. Looking at volume 2 in stottmans book that this is in it seems like its always been like that.
Yeah I've had some kits over the years where the trunnion finish looks quite different. This one especially-

Crappy picture but this trunnion varied in color quite a bit more than the other '83s ive seen in person

Thats odd Mike. Its almost like its as cast with no finish on it. Same as my 82. My 83 izzy matches the rest of the parts perfectly.

In a lot of cases the trunnions are a different texture. I wouldnít call it a different color. The way the light reflects off the surface is different. The original paint is very thin on some Izzyís. In the right light some original izzy parts are purple. The park shows through some original parts I have seen.

Itís two different pieces of metal, one is sheet metal that is very flat and the other is a forged block of steel. Itís just the way they were made I assume.

Even after blasting and painting this barreled assembly, I laid a lot of paint down on this one too, you can see the surfaces are different. In the right light the trunnion looks different. The sheet metal vs trunnion vs rear sight looks different.

I see people talk about color a lot with the small parts, like the selector/top/gas tube. Itís the surface texture that affects what you perceive as color. Itís more of a sheen thing.

Originally The rear sight block was really glossy, I assume because it was smooth. The trunnion was very matte looking because the texture is rough and the receiver had that semi gloss shimmer that the Russian paint has.

Here is a factory 88 trunnion, you see the difference in finish on receiver and trunnion.
