Another 83 AK-74 kit, part by part

Nothing exceptional here, looks like what other folks are getting--all matching numbered parts but with the wrong trigger guard and cleaning rod.

If there's anything else wrong, please let me know.

And yes, you guys shamed me into building a new lightbox. Still need brighter lights, but getting there.

Sweet kit man... I'm starting to wonder if anyone got the TGs we need? I'm almost about to give up and use a Russian akm guard.
One day I will have a nice collection of AKs... instead of a nice collection of cardboard boxes.

Thanks guys. Not that I did anything more meritorious than pulling out my credit card!

I figure more part by part pics never hurts--someone is always looking for a good closeup of just one part from just one year, et c.

I've got similar pics of two Atlantic Tulas, one Tula kit pieced together here, and one of Commbloc's Izzy's I'll post for comparison and with some questions, as soon as I do the intial parts ID work.

I noticed a little orange rust on the site leaf.
It's not deep enough to cause pitting.

What is the best way to remove it with out harming the finish ?

Coat it with either Kroil or WD-40. Just smear some on with your finger. Leave it for 2 days and first, try scraping the surface rust off with your fingernail. If that doesn't take the rust off you may want to consider another method, maybe OOOO steel wool, but try the fingernail first. If it's not too deep for the nail it absolutely will not hurt the piece. It's an old and simple method my gunsmith taught me to remove light surface rust that has not started to pit the surface yet. Both of the two oils I listed are considered penetrating oils. Not only will they help disolve rust for things like losening a rusted bolt and nut, they also work for surface rust removal.

Good advice above. Also, if fingernail doesn't do it, you might try something milder than steel wool, like a plastic pad for scrubbing dishes, then maybe a bronze brush, et c., working your way up to the steel wool. I would think even 0000 would dull the finish and leave a visible spot.

A light touch willl be the key with anything more abrasive than your fingernail.

I've been using penetrating oil and a nylon brush. After you think it looks pretty good, dunk it in thinner for a few seconds. After it dries you will see all the spots you missed. Then you get to start all over...........Nice kit. Thanks for the pics.
