    WASR 5.56 question

Did Romania ever make 5.56 AKs for anything other than export to the US? I have a friend at work that has one and
he says he got it from a guy that brought it back from somewhere overseas. I haven't seen the rifle because my
coworker lives in a different state. I'm trying to get some pictures.
I believe if it's a WASR-3 or SAR-3 it will have "Imported by" on the receiver so pictures should answer my
question of whether it is legal to own, but now I'm just curious if there were ever any made that weren't
    for the US market.
He also said the gun ran full auto when he got it, but did not have a semi auto option. That sounds like a bad
FCG or someone messing with crap they shouldn't.
He replaced the FCG and it works as a normal safe/semi rifle.

Thanks for any info or input.

I don't doubt it, but could you be more specific?

    This part....

" dood brought back full otto "

To the best of my knowledge, 5.56 romys were export only ( military versions )
The semi-autos ( WUM, SAR, WSAR ) were US import only.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree it would be highly unlikely to get a full auto into the country. That's why I thought the FCG was probably just molested by some knucklehead.

It's probably a crap story, but keep in mind that he might just be a sucker that's believing what he was told. Also, perhaps it was purchased in a PX in Europe. I have a CZ85 that was purchased by a soldier in Germany. It doesn't have import markings. The import markings or lack of them will tell the story.
Rights are inherent. They do not come from another's wallet.

Is it legal to own if it is a standard semi auto WASR but has no import markings?

Yes. Occasionally importers miss a gun or two when stamping their import markings on them. Doesn't happen often and I don't think it happens any more. You'd occasionally see it with surplus firearms that were brought in 30, 40, 50 years ago

Tell your friend that there are a lot of AK lovers here that would love to see pictures of his Romanian "Prize".

Seriously, the easiest way to answer questions about an invisible firearm (or invisible anything for that patter) is to show the experts some photos, and this site has many true AK experts.
