Pioneer arms AK's at AIM surplus

Aim Surplus has Pioneer arms AK's for sale. One is a side folder and the other has wood furniture, both 7.62x39. Aim states "Manufactured at the renowned Radom plant in Poland." The price is right, under $500 each. I haven't heard of these but if made by Radom I would think they would be good. Any word on these?

Pioneer arms AK's at AIM surplus

These AFAIK are from Royal Tiger Imports (IO Inc). RTI has been selling them for about a month and half already. I haven't gotten my hands on one yet. I had ordered one from RTI, but they took forever to ship it, so I cancelled it.

    Thanks for the heads up!

These undercut WASRs by a little bit.. maybe there will be a downward trend for AKs soon?

I believe tese are the ones featured in several YouTube "inside the factory" videos. One of them shows the barreled front trunnion being riveted in without the use of a bucking bar. Not sure if that was standard operating procedure, but it seems to be a shortcut.

Most everyone on most forums have little good to say about IO. These Pioneer rifles are not made in the real 'renowned Radom plant.' That implies FB Radom (Fabryka Broni) that makes Beryl rifles and made the well known Vis pistol in the 30's-40's. Pioneer is in the same city of Radom, and I believe also in the same area as the original FB plant. A bit misleading. Personally, I think a new WASR, Saiga, or NPAP would be a better choice.

heh... dad broke the handguard retainer lever.. that thingy that you move to take the lower handguard off.. went *ping* and freaking broke.

it also had some FTF but not sure what caused it.

I have two, still have not fired either. Lots of rough cast parts. Barrel is chrome lined. Rear sight is Romanian marked, not Polish (and even it is cast). I bought mine when they were $399 with no stock.

Unlike the vast majority of posters, I actually own one of these. I purchased one of the sidefolders from Centerfire Systems for about $500. Fit and finish is nice- way way way nicer than any of WASRs or SARs I've owned, and about the same as my Yugos. Unlike the Yugos the barrel is chrome lined, although I don't shoot corrosive ammo so I'm not sure how much that matters. So far it runs like a champ. For a lark, I've run it with parts from a Maadi, a romak and a Russian rifle. Rifle ran normally, no FTF, FTEs etc. I know everybody hates IO because they once had a grandmother's first cousin's half-sister's uncle who bought one back in 86 and it was terrible, but this rifle isn't made by them. AIM apparently played up the "famous Radom factory" thing, but Centerfire didn't make that claim, nor did Pioneer Arms. All in all, AKs aren't that hard to make and I generally trust any former com bloc country to make fairly solid weapons and this gun is no exception.
