I'm going to use a M+M Romy barrel for mine I have a recreator and a weaponmark Arabic marking kit shipping mine out soon as well. Congrats pretty cool kit.
...more teaser pictures from Two Rivers Arms with my 1988 Arabic Maadi build. Cannot wait to get this back!
I just finished this one, matching 1990 Maadi crutch folder kit. This was actually the first parts kit I ever bought, got this and a Romanian PM-63 as a set on Gunbroker back in like 2009, I think it was 350 for both of them. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes they could go back in time to buy a few dozen at that price. Assembled with a Childers receiver and Radom barrel. Originally it came with a crutch folder but I put literally 3 rounds through it with the folder on and I was like "ummmmmm... no". I don't like getting slapped in the chin with a metal rod every shot so I had this extra Soviet wood buttstock that substitutes nicely and is about 178x more comfortable. I still have the folder if I want to play dress up.
This is the first gun where I tried wear it for a 'bfpu" look because the original parts were in sort of rough shape. Maybe the paint just came this crappy from the factory because the metal looks like it was whittled with a knife, very obvious casting and milling marks on every part and the electropenciled serial # and cartridge markings give it that 3rd world military look.
The original parts look like they had been hastily repainted some time after its original issue, and then used pretty roughly again, since there are two not-entirely-matching coats of paint on it. What I did to emulate this is mask off all the original stuff and I painted the gun with some Russian paint I had left from my last Soviet build. Then after that had baked on and dried up for like a week I took the gun outside and scraped it with steel wool, sand and some gravel and dinged up the paint a little. Then I recoated it with some satin black Krylon, careful not to do too good of a job, I even left a couple runs in it. Then I wore it a little bit more to match.
I think the result came out pretty much matching the original finish.
