Started a new thread for this but realized why the hell did I do that. Deleted...anyways

So gonna take this Maadi out to the “open” range for the first time since i got it. Going to sight it with the irons cause i dont plan on having that sight for very long at all, also will remove the flashlight. I use a metal target (got sick of buying so many papers) and I work in a metals shop. So we shall see how she does, they are calling for rain soooo yea

So how much should I expect to pay to have the this AK refinished? I plan on the receiver, bolt and carrier, rear sight block (normally included with receiver ?) dust cover, and barrel, I will purchase a gas tube when I have the money (or hopefully get one in a furniture set)

They also sell Brownells Aluma-Hyde in rattle cans. Search Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy rattle can. Hundreds of firearms on this site finished with it. Professional and durable.

The Maddi finish is a rough non-durable paint from the factory.

1 can will do acouple of AK's.
Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy is sold at Lowes or Home Depot.
Search this site (AKFILES) for details on baking after spraying etc.

Thanks for all the info, i think i will try this one. http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showth...aking+spraying
I saw you posted on this one also. Start with the selector lever first then move on to the rest of the stuff. I did post a couple questions i would like to throw here also, them being....are you shooting the INSIDE of the receiver also? and the carrier (minus the piston and rod of course) What about the bolt? And if so how many coats? I know the AK is designed to have some play or be loose fitting so to speak, but are 4 coats gonna take up that couple of MM's of play? I wouldn't think the action would be smooth after all that either.

The Appliance Epoxy goes on rather thick. One coat is generally enough. But do a test on something to see how your technique and coverage is turning out.

A final very light blush coat from further away satins out the finish

The baking is important to knock down the shine.

    Very durable finish.

Cool cool, I plan on doing the selector lever and side rail scope mount first for test subjects.

ok so I’m stripping this puppy right now and my spring for the trigger pin looks like this...isn’t it supposed to be curled around the pin? Or is that on American variants only? Also i am wondering if I need a press to remove the front sight apature and gas port from the barrel? Or can I use a punch and hammer? Same for reinstall? The gas port looks like it was brazed on the front side to “fill in” the gap between the barrel and port. Possibly paint? I pointed out some super tiny imperfections that you get when welding, brazing or painting a dirty surface.
Edit ^ it’s paint, I poked it with a dental pick

Edit: Also how do you go about keeping your original markings then? Not the stamps but the MISR S/A, and serial is what i am concerned about. They arent stamped but rather (poorly) etched

Ok this is where im at, and the process i did.

Stripped her down, brake cleaned some tight spots and shit, used paint thinner and scotch pads to strip the paint (not 100%) Washed with dawn soap and a scrub brush with hot water. Dryed with hair dryer. Inspected them, maybe roughed them up a bit more with 600 grit if they needed it. Shot them with 1 coat (3 or 4 swipes of the can) then let sit for 20-30min at 80 degrees, then baked for 1 hour at 400, let them cool and repeat process 2 more times.

Gonna take the receiver, barrel and trunion with gas port and front sight aperture attached to sandblaster sometime next week. Then shoot all that and reassemble and go do some controlled shots (to make sure she is jesus and not blowing up in my face or otherwise malfunctioning) and if all good, sight it in, then finally dump as many mags as I can in the desert some morning like it aint nobodies backyard business. Fuck it.

Will repost with an update on it and pics. Thanks for all the posts, time and money guys. I didn’t spend much $$$ as I had most of the supplies on hand really. Ammo is what’s gonna burn my pocket up. I literally have like 10 rnds on hand lol wish I had 2 snap caps in 7.62
