Bolt is failing to strip off a round.

I have a Yugo UF with one Yugo mag and one Russian (I think) mag. Sometimes the bolt would miss the rim of the casing and instead start to chamber the round half way down the casing, almost as if it skipped over the rim. This resulted in a jam and a screwed up casing. I only recall it happening with the Russian mag and it only happened a few times out of 140 rounds. I was shooting Wolf 123gr SP.

It also has a tendancy with both mags to nose dive the round and chew up the SP pretty bad causing another jam. I have some FMJ in route so Ill see if its just a SP issue.

    Thanks in advance

I have never tried soft points, but I have 1 AK out of 3 that is not happy with hollow points no matter what Mag I use. The AKs that run the HPs are not mag particular. Some AKs are ammo sensitive, might be cured with a little feed ramp work. Hit the archives here and over at Gunco, and AK-47.net. This has been discussed many times.

Three things I can think of to cause this.

    1. Short stroking due to small gas port or weak ammo.

    2. Mag not latching tight in rear causing mag to droop.

    3. Out of spec mag or weak mag spring.

Sounds like you just have a bad mag if it is isolated to one mag you know of.

As for the ammo, AK's are designed for FMJ and any that feeds HP's or SP's is just a better AK.
