    My single shot ak

Hi there, Roger here. My first time on the site..
im a nub at ak's, but I have done my do diigence on this one, on a limited scale.
My ak fires a single shot, not a twitch out of the action, and you have to cycle the action manually, and it ejects and loads a new round, and viola, it goes bang. One shot at a time, a manual semi auto.
if anyone can help, I would be grateful.
since I have had it , it has never shot semi, so not a new problem.
its got all the parts, the gas port in the barrel is not plugged, and I am stumped..

    my my other question is
i would like to build an ak, and would appreciate tips on where to source the parts. All of them. Chf barrel in long length
I have built several ar's, both 5.56 and 308, so I'm confident I should be able to do a decent job.
Im not super thrilled with the ar platform, and enjoy the Sks and ak's I have owned.

What kind of AK is it? Yugo with grenade launching gas block?

Sounds like gas block obstruction. If it's a Yugo with a grenade launcher function then you have it turned to 'grenade' which will close the gas port and not allow it to cycle.

Or the builder forgot to drill the gas port prior to pressing on the gas block. Disassemble the rifle, remove the gas tube, point the barrel down, and pour gun cleaner into the gas block. If the gas port is open you should see the fluid run out the muzzle.

Is the trigger resetting? My Yugo M92 needed a bit of trigger work from the factory. The trigger would pull but not reset. It caused the next round to load but it couldn't be fired until the action was cycled. It would then spit out a live round and load another.

With all the parts, and the gas port open the gun shouldn't be able to prevent its self from cycling. It would at least seem to try very hard to cycle even if there was some issue with the hammer being ungodly heavy.

Maybe inspect the bolt/carrier engagement? If the surfaces don't interact properly, the gun may be staying fully locked until the pressure falls too low to move the carrier.

This is as good a place to start as any. Make sure your weapon is clear, then perform a function check; remove mag, pull the bolt to the rear, check the chamber, then release. Engage the safety, weapon should not fire. Disengage the safety, squeeze the trigger and keep it held to the rear, the hammer should release. With the trigger still held to the rear, pull the bolt fully to the rear and release. Release the trigger - you should hear it release. Squeeze the trigger, and the hammer should fall.

Well, thank you all for the reply s..
no markings beside a cereal # so country of origin is unknown. It says 1972 then #.
I have broke it down, compared parts to a new ak, removed gas block, drilled gas block out a tiny bit, re assembled, and bobs your uncle, still a single shot. I had a guy look at it, and he said, quote, "that's weird" . Had to laugh.
    I will post picks.

Silly question but since I have no idea what you have or who built it, is the gas piston fully into the gas block? Just wondering if someone built it with a short gas piston?

I have one that does this, but I made it that way by not drilling out the gas port.

You should not have drilled out the gas port.

hopefully no bigger than 1/8" bit...
I'm not sure why people are talking about trigger problems.
if it isn't cycling after a shot it shouldn't have anything to do w/ trigger if I understand the symptoms that he's describing.
    not taking new work
