Is what I'm being told about this ammo true ?

I have 540rds of Chinese copper washed .308 ammo, the guys at AK47world.com are telling me that its rare ammo and was made for the Chinese Dragunov type rifle, (sorry if its not a Dragunov but I cant remember the type or model of the gun.) Does anyone know anything about this ammo ? Is it rare ?

Norinco sold steel cased copper washed .308 here all through the 80's.

You don't see much of it anymore, it got shot up, but I wouldn't have called it rare or special.

I bought a case from a buddy about 20 years ago after it kept gumming up the action of his N.M. M1A. It would not chamber in my Savage and the only rifle it would function in was my HK-91. Extremely dirty white residue and mediocre accuracy

I still have a bunch of it. I only shot it in a .308 Galil.

    Fine stuff. Fairly accurate.

The Chinese have gotten the art and science of ammo down pat.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS...the Chinese .308 I shot was corrosive.

I have read many accounts where people have stated that the Chinese .308 that they shot was not corrosive.

Well, maybe so. All I know is that the Chinese .308 I shot was corrosive.

Other than being corrosive, it's great blasting ammo.

I still have a couple thousand rounds of it. I would have shot it up by now, but, I hate cleaning up after corrosive ammo.

Butt loads of it was imported 1990-1994. It sold really well as all you could buy was surplus 308 ammo of doubis quality or for 2 cents a round more brand new factory loaded Chinese ammo. You have to remember that until the late 1990's there wasn't much of a selection of surplus 308 on the market as most countries remanufactured old ammo rather than sell it as surplus. The Chinese ammo worked fine in M1A,FN-FAL,HK-91,and the Chinese M-14 copies. The only people that had issues were as Ronswin said National Match M1A's owners and bolt action rifle owners with match chambers. Back then just about all cheap surplus ammo reguardless of caliber was corrosive so the Chinese being corrosive was really no big deal.
The Chinese ammo was not anything special nor was it made special for the model NDM-86 which was the Chinese Draganov copy made for export to the USA.
