Drilling a romy gas tube to look like a Hungarian gas tube

    Hello,

    Need some input.
I am making a couple of hungarian clones.
I am using some romy and some hungarian parts.
But I am using romy gas tubes.

I have noticed that the hungarian gas tubes have four holes in them between the wood and the gas block on both sides.

The romy gas tubes are solid. Now, If I can find two hungarian gas tubes for my builds, then great! But if I cannot. Would there be any reason I could not just drill holes in the romy gas tubes???

Would this effect any thing as far as function??

Also is this is something that can be done, does anyone out there have a hugarian gas tube that can measure the holes and placements for me. Maybe take some pictures as well?

    Thanks for any help.

I don't see how it could cause any problems, unless maybe you use a vented gas block and a vented tube. I htink it might be difficult to do right, though

Hungy AK-55 has those drilled gas vent holes. I can get dimensions if you want.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks. I am going to attempt and clone an AMM/AK63f and an
    AMMS/AK63d.

I am also in search of two hungarian upper and lower hand guard sets.

Thanks for posting some picts. Maybe I am wrong thinking that these two models of AKM's have the holes in the gas tubes? ops:

    Thanks Guys.

    Oh by the way....

Nice kit Tangotag! If I ever get the chance to get a milled kit, that would be the one.

    Thanks

I think I've got a set of hanguards off an AMMS if those would work. PM me if you are interested.

I think they may have used a varirety of drilled and undrilled gas tubes. I have an AMMS and it is a vented gas tube. But the AKM63 are not of course. The SA85's were both drilled, undrilled and even used the Shorter AMD65 style on some but with retainers. If you look at the kit above from tango tag it has the non-ventad GB and vented tube. Treizecisisase's rifle has both the gas tube vent holes and the AKM style vented gas block. I think the Hungarians mixed and matched.

Thanks for the advice thus far. I have been looking at alot of pictures and it does seem that most of the AK63f/AMMS and AK63d/AMM do have the holes.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to evenly drill them and what size the holes are?

    PM sent Shuckersfan. Thanks
