Yes, and I should have responded several weeks ago. I developed a finished blueprint (proprietary - not to be shared with anyone) using the Type 2 and Type 3 original blueprints as a guide for material, hardening, and flash hard-chrome, and finished details from the samples sent to me by some great guys on this forum. I spent a few hours examining all runtime costs and tooling and process needs. The CORRECT piston is hardened carbon steel that has a flash of hard-chrome and is then buffed to a luster - while maintaining absolute control over the finished head diameter. The steel part and hardening and straightening of the matter? That's easy. The specific cutter to make EXACT replication of the grooves regarding inlet/outlet fillet and the root fillet? Easy enough but available as stock only from Europe outside a special order tool made Stateside. The flash of hard-chrome? Available from two (02) vendors but I must make fixtures and make substantial investment - and possibly lose the entire run on the first attempt.

I set a run size of twenty (20) parts and examined the costs thus far and even made a subcontract RFP to two (02) qualified shops for partial completion or 100% completion - both refused to bid. With the costs of a run size of (20) or so pieces I am of the idea that no one wants to pay more than $100.00 per piston and I would probably not sell all of them during the remains of my life, hence, for the time being the project is at full stop.

    Best Regards,
    Robert Forbus

There was one on gunbroker for $700. I was going to buy it but the seller ended the auction early. Said someone is going to examine it and make reproductions.

I would make a run of them when I get set up again. I am in the process of moving and won't be set up for a couple of months at the earliest.

I never thought I would find an original that I could afford. One single piston listed on a well known vendor's site. 28.00 woohoo!
