what is a good method to produce the battlefield pick up look.
Im doing another G build with wire side folder and I'm thinking about not refinishing it.

Well besides dragging it behind a truck... I did a Polish kit this way be accident at first then it turned out cool, so I ran with it. I hit it with barbaque paint and went to turn it and dropped it in a pile of leaves. Of course that messed up the wet paint but gave a unique "scratched" up look. Then I lightly toughed up with a wire brush in high traffic areas.

I did a cold blue finish with steel wool on the parts where the hand touches the most, the worn look.just pick the rifle up as you would normally do from a couple different places and work those parts over with the steel wool.top of dust cover, trunion area, selector area etc..looks worn and used alot..as for the wood, get a wood burning tool, and a carving tool/chisel and carve some nice artwork into the grips.Use the wood burning tool to burn the carvings in.Gives it the aged look, then use true oil or linseed oil to cover it...
