To Bubba or not to Bubba?? A milled MAK91?

I'm thinking about cutting it up a little maybe an RPK folding rear trunnion? Maybe some Magpul? I'm just tired of looking at it how it is! So has anyone out there built one up?

If you HAVE to change it up then why not cut it diwn and have a nice milled chinese ak? Find the parts for a spiker project. I personally would leave it as is because its a factory chinese gun but of you have to change making it a spiker would be way cooler than magpul.

and if you wanted to really go all out, theres guys who can fix slant backs

A ban era MAK90 projet that I never did was using the Choate Thumbhole stock to create a faux Valmet M78/83S like Arnold used in "Commando".. The same gun was in Predator as well.

Ak74dude has a couple great suggestions. I think it looks dam nice as it is but if your bored with it then I can understand. Not really much you can do with it and still keep its originality. Folder rear requires cutting into the milled receiver unless you go with a bolt on folder. Even then, unless it was a clubfoot folder it really wouldn't look right with the long barrel.

If it were mine Id leave it as is and shoot it. Buy another ak to satisfy your need for difference.

Yeah but that only looks cool if Arnold is holding it!

The MAK-91 was the result of Bush the First hating the evil features embodied in the Poly Tech Legend National Match ( just naming the specific rifle knowing there were many others).

The Legend National Match was and is a very rare rifle, commanding a crazy premium due to it's rarity. The MAK-91 was also a rare rifle, with very few making it into the land of shall not be infringed before william jefferson clinton decided that all Chinese military style rifles were evil (among other reasons) and banned them by name through an act of congress.

Granted you might be tired of looking at it, which as a collector of Chinese AK variants I will defend your right to be tired even though I disagree with ever getting tired of the great rifles that cause two presidents of different party lines to go full infringe. That said think twice about destroying the value of it as a MAK-91, a relic of a president who was so stupid that he felt that the looks of a firearm would cause an honest person to become a baby killing maniac.

    Is this real life?

Put it in the cabinet/safe if you don't want to look at it and buy a WASR, PAP, or hell, a Century abomination if you have an urge to chop it up and butcher it. In fact, please feel free to bubba all the Century USA made AK's you want. If it bothers you that much, sell it and buy all of the above.

Well I do like that movie as for a milled spiker I already have one! image.jpg I also think a stock set for an arsenal RPK would look good! I was thinking of just fixing the rear and restoring it to a poly NHM or a ploy NHM under folder just to be an ugly ugly rifle! Lol or maybe a ARM galil type something? But this has a nice heavy barrel on it heavier then my other type 3's so I was thinking of some kind of TYPE3 RPKish build??

    nice aks man!

well id say you already have a type 3 rpkish build with what you have going on. It looks nice right now.

Did the chinese do milled double folders or just stamped double folders?

if they did milled double folders that could be a cool option and it does a lot for your collection

Well Ak74dude I'm not a 100% sure on them ever importing a milled double under folder. I'm sure someone on here knows! But one thing I would not do is cut down the barrel. It shots very nice and it's very accurate. But I was just thinking more along the lines of a milled RPK more so then it is. I think I'll fix the rear trunnion add the lower tang back. But I have been on the hunt for another milled mak90 to build in to a double under folder! The MAK91 has a larger barrel diameter so I would have to cut it and turn it down. I don't want to cut it. And thanks I do like it but I think it could be better!

Ya don't do anything permanent. Swap furniture, muzzle acc, etc. but no major stuff.

Like said, if you want something else, sell it and buy something else.

Just stamped. No milled spikers, fixed stock or folding stock, were ever commercially imported into the US.
